DCT, or at least the GT500's 6 cogger for a slightly more reality-based option
3.73 rear end
Borla exhaust

Chassis:
Uprated springs, shocks, bushings and geometry.
IRS in the rear, or at least a lot of lightened (AL, CF, MAG) compenents to try to rid the live axle of all that dead (unsprung) weight -- and a Watts linkage.
Lightweight wheels (see aforementioned unsprung weight comment)
Brembos all around.

Body:
Very purposeful and serious, reflecting its grown-up's performance machine character.
GT500'esque bodywork
Keep it purposeful and functional -- no goofy scoops, slats, wings or whatever (make them optional if at all).
Very modern and updated interpretations of identifying badging and stickers -- stay away from being too retro as seems to be the habit of late.

Interior:
Very purposeful and functional -- this is a serious grown-up's performance machine
Recaro seats
Real visible fonts in the instrumentation.
Alloy pedals

Price: $35K max (has to stay competitive with the Camaro, which has a lot of this stuff, specs already at $30K)

So outside of specifics, is it safe to say that most people are hoping for something more along the lines of the 2000 Cobra R, but not as exclusive and expensive?

I'm sure we won't see anything quite that stripped down, but that is the impression I am getting.

I think we can probably get a good idea of the character that Ford will be going for by looking at the Raptor. That is a very purpose built vehicle and caters to an extreme market by offering extreme performance and capability, but still maintains it's everyday drivability. All the reviews I have read have commented on how great it is performance wise, while surprisingly still being something that you can drive on the road every day.

That is a difficult balance to negotiate, but it would be great if we could see that in a Boss. An extremely capable purpose built road racing car, that can still be driven every day.

How many 2000 Cobra R's were produced? Less than 7,500?

There is a 2000 R at one of my local dealerships. I stared at that thing for like 20 minutes drooling.

And I would do bad things to have a new Boss that looked just like that white car above. Very bad things.

Yeah, there were 107. I think (IIRC) Ford only wanted to produce 100, but then there was a lawsuit that nudged them to produce a few more. Something to do with orders that were in the system already...

2010 is a S197

I know you mean the first gen S197 05-09 but just wanted to make sure you knew the new ones are still S197 since they are on the same platform.

Agree on the rear, either the 1st Gen S197 or the rear from the S197 Concept

How about an old LX style rear and a fastback option.

Sure. I'd love to see a full fastback and the side window treatment from the '69/'70 cars......but I don't thing we're going to see any significant sheet metal changes until the 2014/15 model year.

You want the 5.0 and the Boss? You will have to accept and embrace the rear end as i have after many months of hatred. Open your hearts my friends and subcum to the almighty diaper!

I actually like the new rear-end. When I first saw the 2005 production model compared to the concept I was very disappointed, but I think it took me longer to like the 2005 rear than it did to like the 2010's

I agree both rears can use improvement in one way or the other.

You know what, lets just forget the Boss and have an LX special edition in honour of the original 5.0! I hope Ford still has some of the 15" 10 hole wheels laying around! haha

BTW, just for the record, I loooove the 2010 rear! It is one of my favorite parts of the new design. It is light years ahead of the 05-09 rear which is looks like someone just gave a 5 yar old a ruler and a box of crayons and told them to copy the 65/66 rear.
