I'm sure there will be a bunch that guess correctly and then there will be a drawing amongst those for who gets the car.

That'll be the only way I will get one the way things currently stand.

There is a video interview on you tube from a V6 Mustang engineer that says the fuel pickup is so well designed that even on the banking they will have no fuel pickup problems.

Mustang 1000 Lap update: Instructions were to drive the Ford Mustang at a consistent pace. They are driving it smooth and using cruise control. The average speed is approximately 45 miles per hour. The windows are cracked, the AC is not running now because the outside temperature is comfortable. The fuel tank is 16 gallons and they are averaging 45 miles per gallon

they are on lap 357 ish now

Wow, that's 1350 laps! It will be interesting to see what the temperature does to that number.

When they're done with this tank, they should refill it and do it over again at 70 mph.

Yeah, I thought it would be more real world than 45mph. At least 60, now the average low end highway speed. 45 is for local roads.

I guessed it would do 42mpg. So I guessed way to low as well. Not to mention it will be a fraction of a mpg most likly which would make it an inbetween lap number.

They should have done at least 55. The normal highway speed limit...

From Twitter:

From 11am to noon, the average fuel mileage was 47.9mpg, which is the top number of the day. #mustang1k @fordmustang
I won't be driving mine at 45mph on the highway though still impressive.

The challenge is to see how many laps can be recorded, not how well they can mimick real world highway driving. 45 MPH is perfect for this test because it is fast enough to get into 6th gear, but slow enough that the aero drag does not affect it much. You have to remember that air resistance increases with speed squared. If they keep up the current pace of ~47mpg, that equates to 752 miles or 1410 laps. Unfortunately I could not enter this contest...

I wonder how a similar Accord coupe or Altima coupe would do under the same conditions. 40+ MPG is amazing for this engine. 35 wasn't going to surprise me. 45 and 47 REALLY surprise me.
