If that really was the top speed of the gt500 I would say its more due to gearing than anything else...

I've been digging to try and find some reliable info, the internet is rife with 170-180 give or take, MT said 175 with gearing, I seem to remember 160+ being from Ford when the GT500 first came out and I've found 1 guy from Canada claiming 190.

Here are the speed calculations based on trans ratios and a 6000 rpm limit with a 3.31 final and a 285/40R18

1st = 48 mph
2nd = 81 mph
3rd = 111 mph
4th = 145 mph
5th = 181 mph
6th = 230 mph

@ a 6500 rpm limit

1st = 53 mph
2nd = 88 mph
3rd = 121 mph
4th = 157 mph
5th = 196 mph
6th = 250 mph

The 07-09 GT500 has a Cd of .38 and a frontal area in the neighborhood of 23.79 sq. ft. - the drag limited speed of the vehicle varies depending on inputs but 190 doesn't seem unreasonable with 500+hp
