2011 Top speed guesses

I think the GT is going to eclipse 165mph pretty easily sans a limiter that stops the fun short, and frankly, that is way more than enough. That said, the suspensions capabilities wouldn't worry me at those speeds nearly as much as aerodynamic instability would.

You won't catch ME trying to reach the limit....
Funny how some people look at the speedo and quote it as what the car can do.
I always got a laugh outta that

I am guessing the aerodynamics will be better than a fox convertible, and even the v6 has way more power than that. The V6 will easily be capable of 155 and 165 is a conservative guess; and I am supremely confident the GT could do at least 170 without the governor. My fox convertible had stock rims and standard off the rack tires with stock suspension and it could have gone to 155. You can debate safety, but I am sure the new GT can do it, 175 isn't a stretch either. I suppose 185 is a high guess, but not by much in my opinion.

I can think of only a handful of car companies that don't restrict their topspeed of thier vehicles. I know Porsche doesn't as well as Ferrari as they are all rpm/drag limited. My 997S will hit 7200rpm in 6th gear (redline) and it would equate to 185mph. The 2011 GT was able to hit redline in 5th ger (1:1) this would equate to 171mph...I think this is very attainable.

Who cares, you'll hardly ever get the chance to hit that type of speed outside of a track or without going to jail.
That being said, if it's "limited" to 155mph, that will be enough to protect the Mustang's rep in the E-Peen contests.
I'd rather have some more rear gear like a 3.73 for added acceleration, losing some top speed is not an issue.

These are 'optional' tire specs I have found for some of the cars.
V6 235/50/R18 97W
GT/CS 245/45/R19 98W
GT w Brembo package 255/40/R19 Summer Tire, later 245/40/R19 Z Rated Tire
GT 245/45/R19 98W

Its quite a study to estimate that the speed actually will be. You have the drag coefficent and that inverse square law. You need a lot more power to go a little faster at high speeds. If you could go 140 with 300 HP, you could go 165 with 400.

If the 4100lbs SRT8 Challenger can hit 173mph, I'm pretty sure the GT will be able to match that, considering it's toting around 500lbs less flab with equally heinous aerodynamics and frontal area.

Just how heinous are the aerodynamics? I don't recall every reading what the coefficient of drag is for either car.

While I'm positive neither V6 or V8 will go faster than 155 in stock trim, I'm betting a GT flat out wont go much past that anyway even with the areodynamic improvements put into place with the '10 models.

I like how Ford swapped the tach over to the right on the 2010+ cars, like the 07-09 GT500 SVT cluster. Driving an 09 and 10 back to back, I prefer it on the right. More visible in the corner of your eye.
