How many of these orders are retail orders? I'm just wondering if there is regular dealer stock in the mix. Regardless I think the 2011 Mustang will sell well across the board.

2011 Mustang order banks opened up end of January (25th ??) and got to 11,000 in 4 WEEKS time (78.5% of Camaro's 14k). With 3 more weeks left before production starts, I think we have a pretty good shot at exceeding the Camaro's pre-order number even if pre-orders begin to taper off.

... way to go Ford.

The Camaro order banks opened 10/15, I think. According to camaro5, they had 11000 pre-orders on Jan 27th last year. Good job, Mustang!! I really can't believe that, with all of the hype about the Camaro, the Mustang is giving it quite the whoopin' in the pre-order department!

I've personally ordered 3 for customers and 10 for our store. But, I think the 11K pre-orders cited is just for the retail cars since Mustang stock orders are now filled automatically by computer for the stores with a new program called SIMS. I can't imagine Ford would be "proud" about 11K pre-orders if it included automatically generated system orders.

If the 11,000 is only retail orders, what is the actual orders then? (stock + retail) Could it be 20,000 ish???

If they have 11,000 requested, thats gona take 4+ months just for those. That also doesn't account for continous future orders. This throws a huge wrench into my plans.
Guys, relax. The layoff isn't til July when they go on shut down, and by then they'll have accumulated enough Mazda6's built to focus on the Mustang orders. Right now the 6 isn't doing that great, and if they can build them, they're going to build as many Mustangs as it takes to keep the dealers stocked and fill the retail orders for people like us.

All this speculation about plant production levels and reasons for things needs to stop. It's such a knee jerk reaction on here it's ridiculous.

Personally, I'd love to see about 20,000 pre orders for the 2011, not including dealer fill. If Ford can come out of the gate this strong with just the powertrain change, that's a huge indication of things to come. I don't think the layoff is going to hurt anyone on here that's got an order in the system already.

I have already moved on past the plant capacity, but I am still curious about the actual number of orders. If the 11,000 does not include dealer stock, in reality the number is much higher. I want to know how much.

If the demand is very high, the cost is also likely to remain high, ie. little to no incentives and ADMs...

And I don't have an order in yet, was planning to order late summer with the hope of deliverly late fall. But if massive orders continue,

1. I will have to pay more
2. I will have to wait longer to get my car

Yes its great to see ford doing well on the mustang, but it is not going to make or break the company. But when I order mine, I want to know if its gona be 2 months or 6 months...

I gotta admit I'm really tempted to buy a V6 Mustang for the first time ever! I have been waiting for the '11 GT500 stats but at the same time 300+HP and 30mpgs sounds like the perfect daily driver. I just wish Ford had this new V6 during the cash for clunkers program I'd probably have one in the driveway today!

Is anyone really surprised by these numbers? I remember the first threads posting info about the 2010. Myself and several other members *****ed about the old engines in the new car, I'm glad Ford did not wait until 2012 or later for these improvements.

Hope those numbers crush the Camaro's and more importantly, are sustained throughout the production run.

And if sales remain strong and Ford has trouble filling backorders, the July layoff may
even be rescinded. We'll just have to wait and see.

Although the old V6 was really a lump, I don't have anything bad to say about the 4.6. This has been one great engine. My 2001 Bullitt has been as or more dependable then my Wifes Toyota, and her Toyota, or for that matter. Any Toyota, can never duplicate the feeling I get in the Bullitt as I enter a Freway onramp.....

I think it will. The 2010 has not been doing that bad in sales and everybody knows the 2011 is coming. The mullet nation should be satisfied after a full year of production.

I'm not surprised at all that the 6 isn't doing too well. Those front fenders REALLY must go. It makes the car look really Dumbo the elephantish. I've tried to like that car and from the back, its sexy. That front end though, only a mother could love it.

As for the Mustangs 11k orders already, not surprised one bit. People love the Mustang, but they loved it a little less down 100+HP. Now with the answer, theres no reason to not love it again. It has spanked the Chally since the Chally showed up and barks right up on the Camaro in most tests. Bravo Mustang!! Squash em like a bug. New era, same story. Camaro crap design with a great engine still doesn't sell cars. 2 strikes against them now though because the Mustang has the looks, personality AND it'll run with em no problem.

My g/f has an '09 6s Touring with some options, and it's too expensive. They want $27K for a car with nothing on it, then add nearly $3000 in two packages (moonroof, Bose) and it's out of the market range. The car is noticeably better than the previous generation, and the extra size isn't a bad thing. The motor isn't efficient enough, and the base models are too 'cheap'. It's not going to be a big contender in the Fusion, Camry, Accord market, but it'll line up against the Maxima instead.
