2011 Mustang GT Trunk Leak
Hello, I have a 2011 GT. I like the car a lot but am a little disappointed as my trunk leaks in this 2.5 year old car. On investigation I found that I can see light through the area where the trunk and the curved portion of the tail light meet. This happens only on the drivers side, the passenger side fits perfectly. Every time it rains, I have water, any one else have this issue.

If you think water is coming in somehow around the driverside tail light.
tighten the 3 screws holding the taillight in place. They are easily accessible.
I bet you that those screws are just loose. I know this because when I removed my bumper to add the valance, the taillight screws were removed with my fingers. There weren't tight AT ALL. I can easily see this being your problem.

had this happen to me. there is a square hole with a plastic grommet on the trunk behind the taillight. I had to put silicone on it b/c that is where the water was dribbling in.
That is all I remember, it was 4 years ago.

Well as far as I know car was not hit, I bought it used but it a clean carfax ( could be not reported). But when drop the seats there is a gap which allows light through where the trunk and the gasket meet, so I know where the water is coming in from, just don't know how this happened after having the car for such a short time. I will have to take it in to a body shop and figure out what the H happened. Disappointed in build quality...for the price

Mine was initially leaking from the third brake light seal so the dealership replaced it. After that, the trunk would still get water in it any time I went through any automatic spraying carwash where the rear gets a perpendicular spray of water. The little pockets for the trunk bumpstops would be full of soapy water and it would just run down the trunk plastic into the spare tire area. I tried endless adjustments to the trunk bumpstops with no resolution. I have never looked for the gap you are seeing but will now today. Since lowering, I cannot fit in any of those carwashes, so handwashing resolved that issue.

I'm telling you.... try it.
pop the trunk open .... try to see if that brake light has movement...try to wiggle it around, if you can move it, even slightly. its likely loosened. you have nothing to lose and everything to gain ($$$$) by trying to tighten it. it will take 10 minutes of your time, if that.
