I havnt used it but I would check the specs first and make sure it isnt a real racing filter.

Real racing filters are Sieves. That means they only stop items above 60 microns. They basically are only their to catch large debris. They want to maximize flow to avoid the possibility of the bypass valve opening.

Honda swears up and down their engines have break-in oil and threaten bloody murder if you remove it early as they want the massive dose of moly in their to help smooth cylinder wall break-in. They claim it makes the hone marks "roll over" instead of breaking off leaving a smoother surface.

According to Acura its actually just liquid assembly lube instead of break-in oil but same difference.

However we were more discussing any material left from machining (minimal in factory engines), increased blow-by initially and the increased metals from break-in in the oil.

Its kind of like the 3,000 mile oil change. No modern research has ever been able to improve increased engine wear from 6,000 mile changes but you should never attack emotions with evidence.

After 70,000 miles I finally converted to the Ford Racing oil filter. There is another member here that said he used it from day one on his Mustang. I don't expect to see any difference but thought since I did my own oil changes I should use the best Ford filter.

How did you find the motorcraft part #? Even the motorcraft site isnt updated yet.

I went around to a bunch of local stores and none of them even had it in the computer, let alone on the shelves.

I want to do a change tomorrow but I would really rather use a motorcraft part.

It is in the manual. FL-500S

Nobody around me had it except the dealer. I ended up ordering it from Amazon since all the dealers close their parts counter the same time I get home from work.

Good call on Amazon. I have Prime so it was even cheaper for me. 30 seconds of clicking and I'll have 4 of them on Tuesday. Way easier than the dealer.

just had my oil changed at 1100 miles....i used a ford racing oil filter # FL-820 and 8 quarts of mobil 1 5/20.....i also put in the ford racing high flow air filter # M-9601-MGT....you can't go wrong with ford racing.......i was amazed with the difference in both the bold sound and the acelleration with the high flowing air filter and slicker synthetic oil........broke in the car mildly heavy and generally between 2000-5000 rpm's....on occasion(not often) really on it.....oil consumption was approx 1/3-1/2 qt of oil.........very impressed for an engine of this stature.......a tip if your're not aware of this-run the car with everything off(traction control and stability control)+ (a/c off of course) for MAXIMUM unrestricted power...sport mode still leaves some computer controls in place.............................red candy/black cloth-6 spd stick-3.73 gears.......very quick

I keep a spread sheet, with the date I purchased the car, and everything that is done to it, all Maintenance, Mods, etc., along with the running cost. It helped with my last two trades. The dealers were impressed and said customers love to see the car was well maintained and cared for.

One quick question, any reason you did not change the transmission fluid, when you did the rear end? Just curious as I was going to do all three.

How screwed am I?

So how screwed am I? I changed my oil at 1200 miles with Mobil 1 and drove about 30 miles. Got home and relized I didn't put enough oil in. I thought it was 6.2 quarts and come to find out it is 8.

So pissed!

You were only 1.8 qts low running synthetic oil for 30 miles. You are fine! No worries.

If I wanted to change my oil to mobil 1, what would I need? 8 quarts of what oil and what oil filter?

Do Ford dealers have mobil 1? If not, would they put it in for me if I brought it to them for the oil change?

To use factory spec stuff, you would use 8 quarts of 5W-20 Mobil 1 and the M1-212 filter.

Some dealers will do the oil change that way and some won't - you'll just have to ask. The Mazda dealer from my previous car had no issue doing that for me and the cost for labor was usually $20 or so.

I'm not as hardcore as RedWings with scanning in the documentation, but I do a Google Docs spreadsheet that I can access from anywhere and keep all the paperwork in a file in my home office. Haven't had my Stang long enough to do any maintenance but here's the one from my Mazda if you'd like to see an example: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/...JyUHc&hl=en_US
