[QUOTE=Blackbird.;6336926]I haven't run into the problem of grinding 3rd though. If I think about it too second gear notchiness is a non-issue for me. But the whine is persistent through all gears really. I had it taken in a couple months ago for the whine. But they said it was normal. So i'll run it until I have a problem and then they can eat their words and fix it.

I just feel like Ford dropped the ball on an amazing car with amazing power from a 5.0 and then to mate it with a bad transmission. Does anyone know if the engine is made here in the U.S.?

What still gets me though is the amount of DENIALISM surrounding the MT82.

This is very simple, there are only two certains about the MT82:

1. Those that have failed
2. Those that will fail

I would be very intrigued to hear from people that are getting over 60,000 miles on their 2011+ 5.0 Mustang's, and feedback from those people regarding the state of their MT82's.

Ford made a horrible decision with the MT82, and they won't be able to correct the issue quick enough to get from under the rock (that being the MT82) that has fallen upon them. I would seriously doubt we see the MT82 in the 2015 Mustang.

If Ford keeps the MT82 w/o significant revision to raise the power handling level, and if the EcoBoost engines find there way into the Mustang, the MT82 problem will just become even worse with the higher torque output at lower rpms.

Not sure who's got the most miles on a 2011+ Mustang with the stick, but I've got over 25K so I'm probably in the top 10% or less I bet. I had the fluid TSB performed when I first bought it. Other than that, I've had zero issues with whining or anything of significance. 2nd and 3rd can be a bit notchy sometimes, but I attribute that to my ham-fistedness more than the car.

I got this guy in yesterday. 2012, 98xx miles, pending 2nd trans. 2nd gear is toast, nothing but marbles in a can. I just submitted CostCap to Ford on rebuild vs replace. No word from Ford yet, I'm hoping not a rebuild

UPDATE!!! I called Ford Customer Service and they said they would escalate the issue and a rep would contact me. Well about 5 hours later my Service Manager calls and said the Ford rep called him and told him there is no way he can speed up the back ordered parts so I am getting a whole new transmission!!!! It should arrive in a few days!!

Just rolled over 30k today and still no issues. Put in RP synchromax about 800 miles ago and it is shifting more smoothly.

I just turned over 21,000 miles. 99% is highway speeds, 75. I had the TSB fluid change completed in Oct 11, for winter driving. No problems from day one, except the stiff shifting when the temp was below zero. Fluid change solved that. Car just seems to be getting better as the miles rack up. I do drive in the hills and shift quite a bit, usually 2, 3 and 4th, which are very smooth.

I am curious as to why some MT-82's have no problems, while others seem to be totally junk, even the newer ones. Mine was an early build, Jun 2010. Any one thought about this or tracked it.

So, forgive my ignorance but would this effect the 2013 v6?

My custom build is coming in this week and I need to know if I should be considering an extended warranty or not. :s

If your v6 is a manual then you will also have the MT82 and you will be subject to some of these problems also. I will say that the 13 I test drove seemed to be much smoother than my 11.

I'm pretty much in the same boat as you. Only thing I have is the gear whine but it hasn't gotten any louder. Sometimes the rough shift into second when its cold. There's ways to get around that though.
