One way to get a good deal is to get an X-Plan PIN, as the price is fixed no matter when you place the order. With X-Plan, you will also receive any rebates that are available when you take delivery of your car. One way to get a pin is to have been holding 100 shares of Ford stock for at least 6 months, another way is to go over to Blue Oval Forums and request one from a Ford employee. Those PIN's are only good for 30 days, so it's best if you first find a dealer that is willing to order/sell a car for you on X-Plan.

Chris, look at the copy i just pasted. Looks like in his first quote, he did include preperation, delivery and some other "dossier" thing. Not gas obviously, and what is FDAF ? Anyways have a look at it and tell me what you think.
Bonjour Daniel,

Bonne route,

Ok Dan, after working it out, the original 43099$ MSRP quote includes delivery and AC tax. The FDAF fee I mentioned is an advertising fee that I have seen used in US invoice quotes. It may be that the fee is rolled into our much larger destination and delivery charge, but I am just guessing at that.

Anyway, getting back to your configuration:

The invoice less holdback price is 38808$, the invoice with holdback price is 39641$, and MSRP is 43099$. Thus his offer of 40491$ is 850$ over the "Invoice" price, and there is room to manoeuver.

Also, from his emails, Jean seems to be saying that your order would count against his allocation. We've heard from Jeff that this is not normally the case, special orders are separate. Things may be different in Canada though. Maybe you could just ask him about that. Tell him that you read on the Internet that special orders don't count against the allocation, and that if that's true then your order would not take away from the cars they will be able to sell to other customers. see how he responds.

Thanks for the great info and link. I'm surprised to hear people will just "give" you a PIN...

Might be complicated for me. I live overseas and I'm not even sure how I will order a car. I can't really register and insure it in my name for non-resident tax reasons. My plan so far is to contact dealers by e-mail then have a relative actually order/buy the car in their name then I'll schedule my vacation around when it arrives to pick it up! Suppose I'd need to request a PIN in the relative's name. Maybe I'll need to get on to the Blue Oval Forums and enquire over there to see if this is even possible. Jeff

I found a CDN dealer offering Invoice pricing on all factory orders.

I e-mailed to confirm this would apply to 2011 stangs, they said "Yes"!

When I gave them the details of what I wanted ordered and asked for the price, they responded with, "I am having to wait for the 2011 order list. It should be available soon. Once I have that I will contact you."

Strange. Do you think they are talking about the Order Guide? They should have that if I do... What else could be the hold-up?

No big deal, I want to wait another month or two anyhow.

Haven't had my e-mails answered regarding the "order list" yet. I've moved on and gotten a couple other quotes. The one I'm closest to includes a $399 "doc fee" and a $20 tire tax. No A/C tax though...

Is this "doc fee" legit, over and above the $1350 D&D, something like the FDAF that's been mentioned, or is it just a method of padding pockets?

I've been quoted 12-20 weeks delivery too! I need to get this thing done, or wait till next year...

I have no idea what the "order list" is. There is a Canadian "Order Guide" out on these forums though.
All cars have the A/C tax, it's on the window sticker and is a federal tax, so it must be paid (can't get a Mustang without A/C)

We haven't had a friendly Canadian dealer here to give us all the details, but I suspect the FDAF (an advertising fee) is included in the invoice pricing. If you compare the CAD and US Invoice and MSRP prices, you will see that the Canadian margins are quite a bit smaller than in the US, which makes me think the extra costs are rolled into the Canadian Invoice prices. As such, a doc fee is likely purely dealer profit.

Here's the explanation from my dealer: "The documentation fee is for the administration work resulting from the deal". Which seems to tanslate to "purely dealer profit" as you suggested.

They won't budge from about 350 under MSRP either. I don't understand why they wouldn't want to make some money off of me rather than none.

My options now are:

1. Solicit all other dealers in the area with e-mails, offering my highest price (about 1200 over invoice) to take it or leave it.
2. Beg for an X-plan pin.
3. Further investigate cross-border shopping.

I experienced this "admin fee" when I bought my car (used) only they didn't tell me about it upfront. It made me so mad, you negotiate a deal at a certain price and then they print up the sales invoice and tack on $400. I absolutely refused to pay it so they showed me other sales invoices saying "everybody pays it". I told them to eff off. In the end, they worked the numbers to show that the full admin fee was paid but I only ended up paying $150 of it and they threw in free oil changes for 5 years.
