I am not sure if Ford has ever just skipped over a year before. I do remember the Vette skipping the 1983 year though.

They should have cut the 2004s off earlier. Most of the dealers around me had 30-40 mustangs sitting on the lot when I ordered my 05. I know they practically gave most of them away after the 05 came out. They should avoid this with the 2009s if they do it right.

NO WAY i'm banking on picking up a cheap 09' GT or maybe even an SE if the price is right. I remember that when the 05' car came out even the Mach1s and Cobras where selling at rebate and used ones where even cheaper. Ideally i'd like to pick up either an 09' GT500 or a used 07-08 GT500 for a nice price.... though i'm optimistic about the 10' car the current GT500 mimics the looks of my favorite Mustang of all time ( 68' GT500KR) So i'm hoping that the public is blown away with the new car!

Ford could do this (keep making 2008 model year Mustangs) as long as they ceased production by Dec 31, 2008. But, if the 2010 Stang gets delayed, Ford would be in the very bad position of having to cease 08 production. Then Ford is faced with either running out of Mustang inventory or doing a very short 2-3 month 09 production until the 2010s are ready.

Extending a model year run to 18 months is very unusual for a manufacturer. Since most of the competitors new 2009 models come out in September 2008, by the time December 08 - January 09 roll around it becomes very hard for the dealers to sell 08 models.

Since there are some upgrades in the 09 model (like the glass roof) which require a new Job release, Ford is better off making them 2009 model Job 1 cars than Job 3 2008 MY cars.

As I stated on another topic, I can not reveal my source, but it comes from way-up the food chain at the Blue Oval.
KC is correct. January 2009 will be the start of the 2010's. I was told February 2010 for the 2011's with the new GDI V8.

Ford is in the process of making a new SE Mustang. My source would not tell what it is. He wouldn't confirm the MY either.
I asked 2009 or 2010? He wouldn't say. All he said is "Ford is scrambling to get ready for the competition." That is why you are seeing these early release dates for the 2010 etc. He said things may even be moved up further.

Also, at this moment it looks like Mercury is dead. There will be several new Lincoln models that will eventually replace the Merc's at the dealerships.
The new Lincolns will not resemble the Fords. They will have complete different bodies, unlike the Ford & Merc's which were almost identical.

Hi All,

I am planning to buy a Mustang soon.. I went the Ford dealer over here (I live in Qatar, Arabian Gulf) and this was his reply:

- Last order for 2008 Mustangs to be sent to Ford USA on April 2008 (this is fully booked by now, so I can not order)
- 1st order for 2009 Mustangs to be sent to Ford USA on August 2008
- Delivery dates are approximately 3 months from order, so it means I will get my 2009 Mustang on November 2008!!!
- They know nothing about the 2010 Mustang

I can wait for Nov 2008 to get the 2009 Mustang and I have no prblems if the 2010 comes with a new shape/engine as I will not be buying the 1st model when it comes.. I will wait for the 2nd or 3rd models (2011 or 2012) to avoid any problems with 1st edition, if any..

The only issue that concerns me is that I need to make sure that there is actually a 2009 and can any one tell me exactly what are the 2009 changes from 2008??? I have tried to check the forum but would appreciate a summary on here so I can know is it worthy to wait that long or to find a way to get the 2008 ordered on coming April, if this is happening, I will find a way with the dealer to order even if fully booked as they said...

Another issue I am facing with my local dealer is that I want my Mustang with manual tranmission and all Mustangs they import are automatic unless specially ordered (which is I am going to do)..

Sorry for the lengthy post but wanted to share thoughts with you guys...

Might want to post in the 2005-2009 section,

but as far as we know option wise, maybe new colours...
and the Glass Roof option for sure.

Well I might just have to wait for the 2011 model then because I really want the new 302
Its looking like the 2010 will have a nice 4.6L though.
Tough decision to make especially if the 4.6 has around 350 HP.

Its hard to choose. A 350-400hp 4.6L/5.4L SE Mustang or 2011MY Mustang with a GDI 5.0 V8.
I think I am leaning towards what my source said and wait for the new engine. Plus, I can save up more money!

New engine looks to be bad***
Even if the 4.6 is bumped to 350hp... i'd still wait.

I'd be happy with a Bullit or GT-500 now, as any performance shortcomings are glossed over by just how incredibly cool they are. But if I were saving up for a GT (which I am), I'd wait to see what they do with the 2010+

2010 Launch

We'll probably see a NAIAS launch.
To coincide with the Camaro....
They may show the V6 (LS), RS and SS.
No Convertibles.

Challenger launches R/T (5.7 Hemi) and SXT? (3.5 V6)
in a little over 1 week at NYIAS. Built date for 2009's is mid-April.
2009 options will be limited and the only interior color
will be black.
So at NAIAS 2009 we'll most likely see a Challenger Convertible.

Ford hopefully knows it can't carry over
the engines from 2009.
They need the new powertrains for 2010.
They should show all versions.
V6, EcoBoost V6, V8 GT, GT350, GT500, Boss
Both Coupe, Glassroof, Convertible and maybe Hardtop Convertible.
New Colors and multiple interior color trims.
Pricepoint, options and weight for every model will go in Ford's Favor.
Horsepower may be down (not by much) from the competition
but performance will be onpar.
This will be a "HUGE" launch to show up Chevrolet...

Everything I've seen says there won't be a Challenger convertible.
