And you do know that some spy photographers are 'tipped off' as to what will be where, or shoot the breeze with the guys in the cars.

And I'm pretty sure that the shutterbug can tell between the sound of a V6 and a V8

Ford has no reason to test 2005 mustangs. Unless they are testing suspension or powertrains.

It is very common for them to use the older body and test new engines.

 

+1 I've even seen 3v mules with SN95 bodies. I highly doubt that there is an older motor in this car

 

I remember they cut the heck outta the panels too cause it was the old chassis' body panels on the D2C platform (obviously different dimensions)

 

I'd love to drive that car now

 

I concede! Every Hurricane/Boss/Coyote/Whatever 5.0 V8 needs tested thoroughly to see just how it'll perform with choking little tailpipes and anemic little tires on narrow little rims. And with black electrical tape concealing the galloping pony on the grille and the faux gas cap on the rear, no one will ever know...Slick!

Ford has 2 private proving grounds where they can test how the engines will perform with large pipes and wide tires, away from the prying eyes of the public and press.
