2010+ Exterior Plastic Trim

Im looking at a 2011 convertible (GT or v6) and i am disappointed at how CHEAP the rocker panels and the rear valence appear to be. Does anyone make these that are paintable or of higher quality? I can see these turning chalky looking in 2-3 years...

Not going to say tons make them, but pretty sure quite a lot. There are couple of members on here that's even painted these their body color. I'm hoping to do that to mine. I've think I've seen a white & Kona like this? Let someone give you an exact set & stuff.

Do a search for 'dust magnet', I think?

Rockers

On the red candy, and others, I like the contrasting color of the rockers and rear diffuser. Keep a good coat of Aero 303 on em, should stay looking good for a long time.

Forgot to type. Please don't let this keep you from buying one! If you can get a 5.0, it will blow your mind!! If a Sixer, still great. I know you don't care for these parts, just don't blow this tiny issue out of proportion. Us In the Mustang brethren will find you what you need!!

Here are a couple of other threads on this topic.

I think there's at least one more but I didn't find it.

Oh, im getting one. Just biding my time.. This will be my 5th mustang including an 85 GT and my 95 Vortech Blown 95 Cobra vert that i still have. My dad is an original owner of a 69 Boss 302, so mustangs are my thing.
Just thinking about how to keep that cheap plastic from getting chalky..

Mothers Back to Black is a wonderful product for keeping the plastic parts their original OE looks. Used it on my 06 Mustang on the side mirrors, skirts, and the plastic near the windshield wipers and it worked flawlessly.

Don't neglect it, and use Mother's Back to Black religiously.

Actually, it really isn't cheap. I have driven my 5.0 through the winter in South Dakota, to include a 1300+ mile round trip to Minneapolis. The black looks just as good as the day I bought the car. I do use Eagle One black trim coat on it when I wax the car. The best part, it doesn't get beat up like a painted part will from high speed driving on the the Interstate. I am impressed with how well it has taken hits from rocks and gravel left on the road.

I have not seen it start to turn chalky as my Euro cars used to, and my wife's 2009 VW Passat still does. This is a different type plastic.

Personally, I don't think painting it is the way to go. The dark/matte plastic is a key to making these cars look smaller than they are. When I see these cars with body colored rockers and rear valance, they look bloated and huge.

This is purely my opinion and others seem to disagree but it's something to think about before you take the plunge.

On the other hand, I have seen the CS/Boss fascia painted before and that looks amazing, IMO.

Check out TruCarbon.net for Carbon Fiber rockers, valances, and diffusers...

Meanwhile, try some Meguiar's Ultimate Protectant Spray... Easier to use and seems (so far) to last longer than Back to Black.
