If the 5.0s respond to intake/tune anywhere close to the way the 4.6 does I'd pick up a intake/tuner combo first optimized for 91/93 gas and the throttle calibrations before you shell out the money for a gear change.

I think I'd just start with a CAI/tune and see what that does.
