Anyone in the NOVA area can recommend a good place to get 3.73's installed that I might order online?
A Ford dealership (not one that I ordered my car from) quoted me 1300$ in LABOR to install 3.73's.
Um. Yeah.

Um. Yeah.
Labor for a gear install should be about $270-300, normally. Typically it's about 3 hours of labor for a competent installer.
I wonder if the dealers price includes all that.

If you break your driveline, they'll use that mod to void your warranty.
$1300 is way too much. You should probably send the car back and reorder with the 3.73's.
And get the V6 so you can get better than 12 MPG.

I do that sometimes in my trade (electrical); if the customer has historically been a PITA or the job is a clusterfrack then you throw out some outrageously high price to either (a) scare the person away or (b) make it worth your while if they bite.
Sounds mean, but if you look at it from my perspective, I've "donated" countless unpaid hours because a customer couldn't decide on a design plan. I'm an electrician, not your interior decorator. Give me a plan, I'll wire it. If you want me to hold your hand while we stroll through Home Depot while you decide on what kind of chandelier you want, fine -- but the meter's running!
If it's done by Ford they'll back it up. If it's done by some other place, then Ford has to prove that faulty install or parts on the modification caused the problem.
So say your radio breaks, Ford has to prove that your gears caused the radio to die. LOL.
So if anything goes wrong with the driveline it's on you unless you can prove otherwise.
That's just a sign they don't want to do it -- for one, the average dealership doesn't have the time/tools to do a proper diff gear setup and second when they do it they'll have to warranty it (for the balance of your 60000 miles). A lot of shops will outsource that work. Most times the dealer only has to work with a pre-setup diff carrier or a whole rear axle -- because if you were replacing a diff under warranty that's what Ford would send them. It takes a good amount of time to properly set and shim a set of gears, they're not just a remove and replace deal.

They call that the F U price
YOU can install diff gears? Really? Move to VA, I need a wife with those skills. But don't tell your fiancee.
I think Sparky hit the nail on the head. And I absolutely LOVE the way he thinks. KA-CHING! Sometimes stupid should just cost money.

Hahaha, well I wouldn't do it without my dad being around. All the mods we did together to my 03, even the cams and the 4.10's. We are going to start building a foxbody soon as well.
