I bought a new black Firebird in 1983 and it was the only color I even considered....I just HAD to have it, and it HAD to be black. Well, I learned my lesson. I'm a car fanatic and it did look great when it was clean and new, but it never stays that way.

You wash it, then after 15 minutes on the road it gets covered with dust, then the dust gets moved around by hand prints and scuffs and it looks awful. Then there's the sunlight problem....try looking at a black car in direct sunlight at noon...do you like the look of swirl marks and surface scratches.

Speaking of scratches, every single little scratch and stone chip will stand out like a big zit on your nose. you have little kiddees? Try and explain to them that they can't come within six feet of the car!

Want to do a quick wash? There's just no such thing with black....you have to wash it, dry it, drive it around the block to blow the water out of the mirrors and crevices, then you have to GENTLY dry it again to take out the water streaks.....and when you do this, you're adding some nice little scratches from the road dust the settled on it when you took it around the block.

Do you have a garage for it? If not, you're doubly cursed. You could spend all day washing and waxing it but it'll be useless the next morning after the dew settles on the car overnight.

No one can convince you of what to get, and I suspect that those that say it's the best color just want you to experience some of the pain they've endured. You have to buy what you want but don't say you weren't warned! I've been detailing cars for years, professionally and as a hobby, and black is just too much work for me.

I agree that silver, gray and white are just plain BORING on a Mustang but there are nice flashy Mustang colors like Torch Red, Redfire, and Screaming Yellow, that isn't as much work. I'm not sure yet what I'm going to order, probably Vista Blue or Torch Red, but it definitely WON'T be black!

How about white?

I have had several white cars. As an everyday driver nothing beats it.

I had a dark blue Explorer, a white Mountaineer, and now own a dark metalic red Moutaineer. The dark cars are always dirty.

I doesn't even show the salt that they are so fond of putting all over our Michigan roads.

I had my Mountaineer detailed recently, and they charge extra for black. They don't however charge less for white either.

I thought about getting black, but I know how lazy I am, I'd have a hard time keeping it clean. It's also also hot as fack in Texas...=P

eh...go with black. I had two red stangs before this one....and I washed them just as much. Sure, black shows more dirt...but it is so worth having when its clean.

(btw...the speck on the hood is the moon )

go black...you wont regret it as long as you love your car as much next and keep it up.

A week after washing and your car already has a bullet hole in it? Black must really be bad if its a bullet magnet!

I got a couple of rock chips on that fender and used the touch up paint, didn't like how they came out... didn't feel like $pending money repainting it yet -waitinting for a few more chips... so I did the same thing I've done to my Jeeps after some rock rash -covered it up w/ a bullet hole sticker... ties in w/ the 9mm bullet shell valve stems.

I'm with many others here, go with the BLACK man!!!

I have a black '93 Cobra and I'm here to tell you, many other '93 Cobra owners with red or teal, say black is the color to have. Besides, it is your car and if you want black, then get it. My Shelby will be black, no other color will do for me. Black cars don't require more maintenance, they are just less tolerant of lack of proper cleaning, if you do a half way cleaning job, it will show much more on a black car than any other color. If you enjoying maintaining your car and keeping it clean, you won't spend any more time maintaining a black car. And it looks bad when clean!!

Is black "harder" to take care of, well I think it was explained above. It's not harder, as I would wash the car just as much if mine wasn't black. But, when it rains or you go through a puddle it does get dirty easier. No doubt it's the best color clean! I say get it, and enjoy the obsession of keeping it clean!

I'd say go for it. I had an 02 Torch Red GT before this one, even though I loved it black is just so much nicer.

If you have a garage, a lot of money for cleaning supplies, and a lot of time, then go with black I have searched for a lot of pics of black stangs, and most of the ones that looked really clean had silver stripes on them. i dont know why but silver stripes on a black stang is amazing.
