Some of you have mentioned paint, chips, scratches and so on. I currently own a dark green car, would the black really show scratches and other defects more?

I'm assuming your green is a metallic paint. The metal flake helps to hide imperfections. Black is flat black w/ clear... and it shows everything. Not knocking black at all, just be sure you know what you're in for.

As I tell everyone I know. Only an IDIOT would buy a black car. That is just insane. It is the worst possible color you could ever order, and people driving black cars look STUPID. Oh, uh, nevermind.

Use Zaino Bros. car care products on your car immediately after you buy it. Claybar, several coats of Z2 and Z5 with Z6 in between. That will take care of any swirlmarks. You will always see more scratches with black paint. If you're worried about it, don't order it. If you don't mind a little work to have the most incredible looking car around, black is your best and should be your only choice.

If you want a mean look go with black. I've got a black explorer right now and when it's clean it looks amazing. That said... it's usually dirty. So you need to have plenty of time to always wash *and* wax it. Always hand wash black to try and keep the swirl marks down. And you'll need to do the waxing quite often to keep those swirl marks from showing. So it's more of a pain but when freshly waxed it will demand respect!

Ok, so here's my problem. I desprately want to order the black. But everyone, and i mean everyone says black is the worst possible color that you can have for a car. But the delima is that black is hands down the most "mean" color you can get. You dont get that kind of look with any other color, red, blue, silver, etc. My question is, is black really that much of a pain?

YES !!!!!!

Been there, done that...never sgain. It stays clean for about 15 minutes ...then you see dust. Swirl marks after the first year are irreversible even with claybars. It happens with other paint too, you just don't see it.

If you enjoy keeping your car detailed like I do, than Black is the only color to get IMO. Yes they show dust and dirt if you don't keep it clean. But it absolutely beautiful when it is clean.

I've had 3 black cars. It took 3 to make me not want to get another one. Why? Like everyone else said it looks great clean, but really shows dirt and water spots more than any other color (dirt is typically a shade of gray).

I just got tired of having a dirty car and was too lazy (or maybe cheap) to keep it clean all the time.

Since this will be your first black car, I would go for it; unless you don't want to spend the time or $s to keep it clean, or don't mind having a dirty looking car often.

Tungsten or Silver is a great color for lazy/cheap people like me. Those colors can hide a lot of dirt.

Zaino. I just about freaked out when I downloaded that pic from my camera to my PC. I knew it was reflective.......But that was beyond my wildest dreams.

I knew it.

I'm continually impressed w/ that stuff. Careful you don't do too many coats or your car is going to turn into a MIRROR and you won't be able to see the black.

Man, I was in the SAME exact situation...
Black or Vista Blue...
When it came down to it...
Black was my choice, hands down.
It's classy and sophisticated.
If you're a more sporty type, then go with a color.
Anyways, theres my opinion...
Take it for what it's worth or throw it in the can :-p

Black is the meanest color.
Black is hard to keep clean.
Black is the best color, when it's clean.
Black gets hot.
Black shows swirls and dirt easier than any other color.

It's up to you. If you take care of your car, keep it cleaned and waxed with good material and technique so it doesn't swirl, and get the windows tinted to cut down on some of the heat in the summer, and even better have a garage, and don't mind spending time making it look great, and you want the meanest/baddes color, then go black.

I've had two black vehicles, and it's a labor of love.
