Media check out on Ford's new innovation website
Ford's freshly launched interactive innovation website, http://www.ford.com/innovation/default.htm, drew attention yesterday as journalists went online to see how it "highlights safety, fuel, design and other technologies through cartoons, video games and other media. It also features interviews with top Ford designers who explain the company's innovative design processes," the Detroit Free Press reports today.
The Free Press article on the new website highlighted the feature showcasing the Ford Reflex concept vehicle among the technical innovations on the site:

The Free Press article on the new website highlighted the feature showcasing the Ford Reflex concept vehicle among the technical innovations on the site:
- The site "trumpets the company's technological innovations and one particular concept car: the Ford Reflex diesel-electric hatchback … The concept car is based on Ford's popular Fiesta European subcompact and features sporty styling, like a scaled-down version of the Ford GT supercar." (The Free Press also reports that Ford claims the Reflex would deliver 65 mpg.)
- "[The Reflex features] "roof-mounted solar panels that power headlights, butterfly-type doors and cool interior features. The Reflex was named the most significant concept car at the Ward's Auto Interiors Show at Detroit's Cobo Center in June. It was the first concept in the award's five-year history to win points from all of the automotive journalists who voted."
- "Seat frames are wrapped in a modern-looking mesh, and there are lots of other surprises: inflatable rear safety belts, an interior quieted by scrapped Nike athletic shoes and a second-row love seat that can accommodate two children or one adult. With a push of a button, a divider bar rises through the seat bottom, transforming one seat into two."
- "…Ford has boasted that it would be a big player in the [subcompact] category, which is becoming more popular in the gas-conscious marketplace. The Reflex would certainly fit the bill."
- "Users can accessorize a 2007 Ford Shelby GT500 and participate in the video game 'Dunk the Donut.' Other Ford vehicles are put through their paces in 'Turbo Racer.'
- "One section features two children named Jake and Cleopatra who are running errands with their mother. Users can click on 'Grandma's' and listen to the children fantasize about what cars will look like in the future. Deeper into the site, the children's mother explains what adaptive cruise control does."
