MY COLOR RETROFIT INSTRUCTIONS {THE FIRST} MY COLOR 2005-2009 S-197 Gen 1
https://www.odosolutions.biz/product...amming-service
UPDATED 07/17/2020 Mileage Update for Used Cluster Unverified Service. FYI
Just an FYI on Odometer Site! Lots More Out There!
TOPIC UPDATED 10/18/2023
Do not be surprized if you get a Deer in the Headlights look when you ask about the IUP conversion, not all Dealership personel are Mustang fanatic's like me! Go easy on them!
As Per Ford Parts Giant Website Some New Clusters Still Available
This Installation was completed at the Dealership I am employed at Yesterday! 02/09/05
This is my personal car and everything appears to function correctly!
The parts needed are the info/setup buttons Part # 4r3z10d889aaa As Per Ford This is Used up to Production Date 12/07/05 Part Number 6r3z18578aa is used after that Date. I have found the only difference in the switches is the Later Switch is more expensive and the early switch has worked fine in later Applications. and an IUP cluster Base Part Number 10849.
Note 4R3Z-10d889-AAA is discontinued.
Use 6R3Z18578-AA Message Center Switch 10/18/2023 DISCONTINUED From Ford
All wiring was present in my particular 2005 GT Auto Application.
The install will need to be performed by a dealership as the Information in the existing cluster will have to be downloaded and reloaded into the existing cluster.
The info must be downloaded from the old cluster before removing old cluster.
It was a simple operation on my particular application. And no difficulties were encountered. WARNING RESULTS MAY VARY!
In order for you Dealer to get you a cluster you will need current mileage and your complete vehicle vin #. Mileage is programmed at cluster center.
There are different IUP clusters for v6 & v8 applications and also depending on your vehicle bulid date! I reccomend you have Installing Dealer order Cluster. They Need to Simply Order a 6 gauge Cluster for your v6 or v8 application and your Vehicle Production Date. I do not recommend that you Mail order Cluster because the Installing Dealer may not want to Install your Purchased elseware part. Also since there is a core you will have extra work involved in Shipping back core. Since Different Production Dates use Different Part Number Clusters I can not post Part Numbers as they are Different and Subject to Revisions and Change.
When your Dealer orders the cluster from their authorized cluster replacement center have them state that they are doing an Upgrade and verify they will accept the standard cluster as a core. The Core could get expensive!
I do not have exact pricing on this conversion but would estimate it at $750.00 to $900.00 installed depending on your dealers pricing and labor rate! This is For New Cluster Installs!
FYI
KC
WARNING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! FORD MAY BE DELETING THE WIRING FOR THE MYCOLOR SWITCH ON THE MUSTANGS! PULL YOUR BLOCK OFF PLATE AND CHECK FOR WIRING PLUGGED INTO DUMMY BEZEL BEFORE ATTEMPTING THIS! 04/19/05 IT IS POSSIBLE IT IS TUCKED OR TAPED INTO LOOM BUT YOU WILL NEED TO VERIFY IT'S THERE FOR A SUCCESSFULL CONVERSION.
[attachmentid=18588]
I sent a Parts Inquiry to ford today to check on the Plug issue 06/21/05 It seems a Subharness used on very Basic equipped Stangs may be left out simply as a cost cutting tool. So You need to check your wiring plug before attempting the IUP Message center upgrade. The Harness cannot be purchased separately. 08/03/05
If you do not have Traction Control you Most Likely do not have the IUP PLUG!
If you Purchase a Used Cluster it may be Plug and Play but the Mileage on your Used Cluster can not be changed at the dealer level and Fords Cluster Center will not reprogram your Used Cluster. Also a Used Cluster Still may have Error Codes in Which Case you are back to the Dealer for a Download. Also Dealers are not going to want to Have any part of Swapping a Cluster with more than a very very small difference in vehicle milage due to odometer tampering laws. I strongly suggest you bite the bullitt and due the swap correctly at the dealer level.
Updates 09/30/2023
Note. Make sure you Take {all} your Keys and Transmitters in and Have them Tested for proper operation at time of Cluster Install. {Vehicle May Not Start Unless if Not it Can Be Programmed at the Dealer.} Later Installs Indicate The Cars Will Normally Start With Dealer Purchased Cluster Install. But if You Choose To Install Cluster Yourself When Purchased From Dealer You May Get a TPMS Light on 05-06 Cars And A Beeping When Backing Up or a Beeping When Exceeding 75Mph. These Were Fleet Options For Rentals And Company Cars.

So the message center and oil pressure and volt meter worked fine with the existing wiring?
Also how long did it take to get the IUP cluster.....any backorder problems?

Are there any part numbers I would need to know to give to the dealer or do you think they could figure it out?
PS How do you like your new steering wheel?

I have to ask one question, and that is what do they use to download the Information in the existing cluster and reloaded into the upgraded cluster?

KC,
Can you give us the part number for the switch assy? I was playing around with the CPD at the store I work at (I am fairly adept at looking up parts) but was unable to locate the switch.
Help please!

Well I went to my dealer today in hopes of getting things started on my IUP gauge/messenger center upgrade. First off they found the part's, as I already had the #'s thanks to the forums. But I was told they can not even over the parts at this time. The car is to new, and parts are hard to get at this time. Nor could they even find out how much the gauge cluster is going to cost me, and not sure if I can return the core for a better price or rebate? But was told to try again in about 3 months (May) then they may be able to help me out. They where also very impressed that it is possable to do it at all! But said that I would have no warranty on the parts being installed because my car did not come that way.
Hopefully other poeple out their will have better luck then I did. Might be because I'm in Canada and not in the States. So only time will tell in my case.
