Horsepower vs Gas Guzzler Tax How Much would you Pay?

With the Gas Guzzler Tax Being a Hot topic What is The Least Amount of Horsepower Increase you would accept with the $1000.00 Surcharge???? Now this is Just The Tax not the Price of the Option on the Car which would Have Increased Horsepower.

I was going to Send this Poll to my Contact at Ford, But Since Hardly anybody wants to Step up for the Additional Horsepower there is no reason to. Maybe Ford is right about only offering The 300 Horsepower in the Gt. If you want to play you Got to pay. Ford can't Change the the Fuel economy Standards.

For me, it's the of the principle thing. I don't want to pay the govt anything for this "priviledge". So I guess it's an effective tactic in getting me not to buy a gas guzzler.

For me, it's the total cost of the upgrade, not the tax on its own. For example, if a 125 horse upgrade cost $1,000 plus $1,000 tax, I would be all over it. If it cost $7000 plus no tax, its not going to happen.

I would offer the car, with higher displacement and a very fuel economic tune and minor changes with 350hp to stay below the gas guzzler tax. Such as the new hemis.

And then offer a FRPP intake and tune to net you the 400-425HP with a warrantee. I believe that ford could do that, and if the package was dealer installed and truly an FRPP thing, it would sneak under cafe standards.

By keeping it a dealer installed thing, as long as it is 50 states legal, and truly an FRPP item, it is outside of epa reach.

And also make it availible through a factory order, if a customer did not want to go through the dealer install route and elected to pay the GG tax.

I would just make the car lighter so it can meet standards with more hp without the gas guzzler.

I was hoping that with the Gas Guzzler Tax...Car companies would be forced to sell thier cars cheaper in order to compensaate...becuase they arent making the car $1,000 more expensive, the government is...and thwarting sales in the meantime.

What I don't get is how Chevy can build a 500 HP old fashioned motor and not get hit with the GGT and the SRT Charger and many others do.

To answer your question, I wouldn't pay a dime.
