or only $50 option on the x-plan but still people are willing to pay that b/c the install on gears is somewhat expensive, and while i'm waiting to save up for 4.10s i'd rather have the 3.55s.

I'm pretty sure at this point car companies are actually subsidizing hybrid cars. As in they don't actually make any money on them. If they were to price them according to the actual cost, i think customers would end up paying even more. But I read that a while ago, things could have changed since then, what with economies of scale and all that. If it hasn't already changed, it will change eventually anyways. New technologies are always expensive to start. Any of you remember how much a DVD player cost just 5 years ago? Let alone a DVD recorder...
