Diesel and/or Hybrid Expedition

Check this out on edmunds straightline:
http://blogs.edmunds.com/Straightline/1140

you go here
http://www.fordvehicles.com/futureve...edition/build/
click on "Build and Price..."
then on "4. Future Options"

One of the options is a 4.5L Diesel V8, they claim it would get 300hp, 450lb-ft, and add $2500 to the cost.
Another option is a 4.6L V8 Gas-Electric Hybrid with 300hp and 365lb-ft, also for an extra $2500.
They say each option would get 3-4 mpg better than the regular 5.4L.

Obviously this is all just speculation on their part so far, but its awesome that ford is finally letting us know what it is considering for the big trucks in terms of improving gas mileage.

I guess this is the same Diesel as what they're talking about for the F-150 (wasn't that a 4.4L though?), which might mean this is the most likely option, and hey, 450lb-ft is pretty intense. But I'd still prefer the hybrid, since i'm from the city and I deal with idling SUVs way too often. What would be incredible is a combination of those two. Everybody's always saying Diesel vs Hybrid... why not a hybrid Diesel Electric. Even more low end torque, even higher gas mileage, and obviously an even higher price.

Anyways, get on that site and vote! Show ford there's interest in both of these technologies. If they make a hybrid expedition, maybe they could put the same drivetrain in the crown vic and those thousands of idling cop cars around North America could be silent and emission free.
