UAW workers in Chicago reject Ford deal, strike possible
I find it amusing that the UAW wants to keep grabbing more and more, yet have no real leg to stand on. The concessions were part of the reason they still have jobs, and the automakers brought jobs back into the states. When the wages and compensation started to equal the transplants of the south (Toyota, BMW, VW), it was more cost-effective for them to bring jobs back.
I'm of the thought that the guys who want to drink and smoke, then get caught doing it (two Chrysler plants in MI were exposed), should be fired on the spot. The automakers have their hands tied so tightly with personnel that they can't protect themselves from some of the most idiotic things that can happen. I agree, if someone thinks they're "entitled" to their job putting lug nuts on a car, and can go out on breaks and get high/drunk, then get rid of them. Put someone there who's willing to follow the rules, get the job done, and show the company (and the UAW) in a better light.
The health care costs are no joke either. However, there is a solution. Again, it comes from this thought of "entitlement" that more and more people have. Whoever got the notion that you can be morbidly obese, do nothing about it, then receive treatment for laziness is missing something. Hold people accountable for their actions. Make people enroll in Weight Watchers to try and improve their quality of life, as well as reduce health care costs. Add a surcharge for those who smoke and/or drink in excess. It doesn't mean we can't enjoy such things, but moderation is key.
Sorry, my post is going on a bit of a tangent. The point is, there's no reason in my eyes for the contracts not to get ratified by Ford UAW employees. I see them in a better position than GM and Chrysler right now, and the satisfaction of working for a better performing company should have some weight, not just pocket padding.

There was a really good article on Autoblog (I think) regarding the union and the public perception following this contract vote. If they strike now, they'll basically sign their death certificate.
For Ford's sake, I hope things go without a hitch, so vehicle supply isn't interrupted.

If you haven't noticed the percentage is in favor of the contract, again please don't phase all UAW as chumps,
For example my Stamping plant passed it with 92.5% in favor...including myself.

No, I have seen that it's going over. I'm speaking only to those that have voted against it.
