Mustang-based Interceptor Concept - FIRST PICS!

Cool. But can/will they build it? And if they do, will it look anything close to this? And are people already tiring of the Chrysler 300-type look?

This is the car Ford should have built two/three years ago. Personally, I like it, but I wonder if it falls into the category of "Been there, done that" (by another manufacturer) now?

Story.

****, you beat me to it!

That is my least favorite picture I have seen, but I still like the car. The front 3/4 (passenger side profile), rear 3/4 , and full side profile views are MUCH better. Like I stated earlier, I have money waiting to purchase this RWD Ford sedan with specs/style/performance close to this concept. I even like the color.

Having just read the story on Edmunds, I guess this quote sums it up best >>

...although Ford has spent years toying with the concept of a quintessentially American-style, rear-drive performance sedan, there's little hope a car like the Interceptor will make it to Ford dealerships any time soon.

Unless Ford copies a page out of GM's recent playbook and imports a version of its Australian rear-drive platform, the company simply does not have the vehicle architecture to build the Interceptor. And the company, in the midst of a huge financial crisis, doesn't have a whole lot of money to throw around either.

How quintessentially Ford; another concept that will never see the light of day. Ho-hum...why bother?

I think this remark from Edmunds best describes the public's feelings toward Ford concepts: But we want the whole thing — the V8, the six-speed manual, the gated shifter, the limited-slip differential, the independent rear suspension, the coarse-leather low-bucket seats, even the 22-inch wheels — not just the basic style of it, applied to some front-drive, automatic-equipped car.

Too bad you probably won't get the chance, cause it's just another cool fantasy car from a company that needs to be building cool REAL cars.

I mean, this thing is a retread of a five-year-old concept (427). They didn't build that, and they ain't gonna build this. More and more I'm doubting the survival of this company. If they don't begin taking some chances and making some REAL bold moves, then put a fork in them...cause they're done.

Hey, Alan...you paying attention?

Here you go. I think they are only viewable (at the moment) if you are 'logged in'. Not sure if I can cut/paste (but with link (copyright?!))

Yeah, this angers me to no end. Although I'm curious to see/hear/read what Alan get's out of this particular concept. Does he have enough pull within FMC to pull the trigger and build this car if the response is great enough?! He wasn't around for the 427 so I'll hold out a little hope for an Interceptor.

I think this car serves as a litmus test for whether things are really changing at Ford. If the public response to the Interceptor is extremely strong, and they hum and haw and still decide not to build it -- then I would argue that will presage the end of Ford Motor Co. right there.

This thing is magnificent. A production version needs to look 90% like this, with all the same gloss and attention to detail.

That thing looks badass

I think people may be tiring of the 300C look, not the actual type of car...

This thing could steal some thunder... refine the front end a bit to be more production like...
The rear looks pretty cool... again... a bit of refinement and DANG... that's a wicked car!!

NOOOOOO, please - not too much! Don't mess with a good thing beyond what's absolutely necessary to make it production ready. Use LED headlights if you must, but don't mess with success!

Remember when the 300C concept first bowed? The final car was virtually indistinguishable from the show car.

Apparently designed by someone named Freeman Thomas, who also designed the Chrysler 300?

EDIT: Or maybe not.

The plot thickens...
