I got a friend who just got a 2005 GT 40. He missed the 40 part of the FORD GT side decals.
Can anyone help me, help him find a decal to make it so? He just wants to add the 40 part.
He is in his 70's and you should see his car collection of older stangs. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Hey Ryland, maybe this can help. The best bet would be to call one of the kit-car companies that make replica GT40's. CAV is a good source for GT40 kits, among other companies, (ERA, and GTD are others) With these kits, the car has the stripe kit that says GT40 on the side. Maybe he can buy the stripe kit from the company, and cut out the 40 part. Just do a google search for GT40 replicas or GT40 kit cars, and then check out the sites. Some of these companies are great with helping out people. Good luck with your search .
BTW, how about posting some pics of his collection?

Ford had to drop the '40' portion of GT40 because of a lawsuit brought on by the designer of the GT40 back in the 60s. That is the skiney behind the naming of the Ford GT.
PS: Anyone that know a lick about high end Fords knows it really is a GT40 ... he, he!!

Eric, the actual people who wanted money from Ford over the GT40 name wasn't the designer from the 60's, it was actually Safir GT40 Spares LTD, a company in Cincinnati. This company trademarked the name once Ford lost it, since they haven't used it in so long, their trademark lapsed. This company was making continuation Mark V GT40's and today make spare parts, and can repair the original cars. This company has all the tooling and molds to do this. They actually trademarked the name years ago, and only let Ford use it on the GT40 concept car only, not knowing that the concept would get the press and praise that it did. Once the real car was greenlighted, and Ford wanted to call it a GT40 again, that is when Safir came out and offered the name for $40 million. . If it wasn't for Ford to even make the original car back in the day, Safir wouldn't even be in existance today.
