Makes one wonder how long Ford can continue to float this boat anchor.

Actually, I was referring to Jaguar, which has been a boat anchor for Ford for the past 17 years - much as I personally like Jags.

I just hope they can hold off to see how the XF does for itself. Its lookin' to be a pretty nice looking car, with some serious engines in it too. The supercharged engine with 400hp will just be an option for the regular car, while the XF-R will get around 500hp, according to something I read. somewhere on the internets.

My guess is that the XF may be the last kick at the can for the Ford/Jaguar relationship. If it doesn't bear fruit, Ford can't really afford to keep Jag anymore or even PAG anymore, for that matter.

This is a shame. I want Ford to get in better financial shape and get back to the top of the American car industry but I really hate that , a goal like that may come at the price of both Aston Martin and Jaguar. Personally I love those two companies, they make beautiful cars that if I could afford them I would buy one no questions asked. Still for the sake of Ford's future they may have to let both of them go.

I don't think one car can save the company.

I would agree but then I have to remember Cadillac's turn raround with the CTS, with one car they achieved a younger demographic and better sales. So it's not easy but it is possible.

The CTS' success is definitely what they're hoping for. Its not a matter of "one model saving a brand," its one model changing the image of the brand.

Also bear in mind that Jag doesn't have an exstensive lineup. The XK is pretty darn successful, were the XF to hit its marks half of Jag's range would be in great shape. Just so long as they don't drag their heels on the XJ, and decide what to do about the X-type promptly.
