How a plan to save Jaguar got deep-sixed
#3
Totally wacked out idea that would never work.
Think of where the Mustang GT would be if there was no V6 model.
Same with Jag. No regular models means the S/C models would be doomed.
Jaguar already suffers from excess manufacturing capacity and too high overhead (even with the closing of Brown's Lane plant). So all reducing sales #s in the US would accomplish is raising the costs of the S/C models.
Jag's problems are that it's products don't meet the competition given their high price. Go drive an X-type back to back with a G35 or a BMW 3. I've done exactly that and the X-type finishes a distant 3rd to the G35 & 3 Series.
The S-type fairs a bit better, it's at least till in the ball park with it's competition, the GS, 5 Series, A6, E-Class, but it's 8 year old platform is showing it's age and is not up to snuff with it's competitors.
Jags best sedan, the XJ sufferes from ho hum styling.
Jag still suffers from it's quirky British roots and has not found the formula for becoming mainstream like BMW. If Jag is at all serious about fixing it's problems, the first thing Jag would do is to get rid of its retarded J gate shifter. The 2nd thing would be to combine all it's manufacturing into a single facility and cut it's overhead. The 3rd would be to uinify all its products under a single archtecture (platform).
