Ford Won't Buy Tesla, But a Partnership Makes Sense

Ford's conservative spending after its 2009 restructuring is another reason why a partnership with Tesla could may make better sense from a financial perspective. I also don't think Ford has been planning a George Steinbrenner-like Yankee managerial move by discontinuing Mercury and selling Jaguar, Land Rover, and Volvo, all in an effort to build cash to acquire Tesla. The wildcard that could make a Tesla acquisition more credible is the willingness to pay the huge price tag as a means to help offset upcoming EPA CAFE standards, which will see mpg go from 27.5 to 37.8 by 2016.

Interesting angle on reasons to purchase. But tsla's numbers are so out of line with its stock price, a purchase would be like a dot com sucker's bet. Sooner (better) or later they've got to "show us the money!".
I agree a strategic partnership would be wiser than an outright takeover at these prices. Of course speculation of a takeover will only make tsla's number more ridiculous.
And 10 mpg's in just 2 more years? That's insane. People better buy cars now because the price tag will be out of reach.

However, being a different animal, there are electrocution concerns - be it a bad fire for someone escaping, or for emergency crews... (becoming the ground). Different learning curve.
Look at all the precautions F1 crews have to go through with the KERS.
