Ford Truck Update
From Motor Trend:
This is great news and will once again put Ford atop the import fullsize truck power output.
Can't wait to drive this one!!!
2007 Ford F-150: New Hemi-caliber V-8 launches with the F-150 and will spread to other trucks and even cars in the Ford portfolio. Still in development, this 6.2-liter engine will produce around 350 horsepower.
2007 Ford Super Duty: The heavy-duty workhorse truck range will be redesigned. The 6.0L diesel engine to be replaced by a more powerful 6.4L diesel.
No word on towing capacity yet. We probably won't know unitl everything is set in stone which is when the truck is unveiled. Ibelive it will be at the Detroit show in January.
I must say Zoran that I drove a 4.6 on Monday and they are amazing! Great bang for the buck! They tow more than the Tundra with a smaller engine.
How are you enjoying yours? I'm assuming everything is going well?

I only drove it few times since I bought it (currently 550 miles on odometer), I'm waiting for winter to start using 4x4. We now have 4 cars in the family (including f-150) so we only drive f-150 when we have to. Gas mileage is poor (around 12-14 mpg in the city) and it cost me almost $100 to fill the tank, so its not something I would use for daily driving.
Yeah, gas mileage is definetely not a plus for any full size pickup right now. I found that leaving the windows up and the a/c on uses less gasoline than leaving the windows down. Plus the cruise control really will help out too.
If you have some extra cash about try a K&N airfilter also. It might benefit you a bit. Those stock paper filters are god awful. Over all thought I'd say you seem to be doing decent on the MPG compared to some people.

Ya me too! I was really surprised when I read somewhere that ford's hybrid push will focus mainly on their front drive vehicles. The hybrid pick up thing is a really good idea. For one thing, the added weight isn't as big a deal for a truck that big. In a small car, the added weight is pretty big proportionally speaking. Second, low end torque with electric motors would be good for towing. Lastly, that whole thing that Chevy's got going, using your truck as a generator, very handy for the pick up crowd.
Back on topic: is this info from Motor Trend's future vehicle forecast? While that thing is prettty sweet, i love going through it, a lot of the entries can be outdate or conflicting and stuff. That sounds like the hurricane engine they're talking about. That was cancelled back in february:

Maybe instead they could couple the 5.4L V8 with a bigass motor, that could add some serious grunt while improving fuel economy and emissions.

Yeah its from Motor Trend. You might be right. Though you never know.
That article was from quite a while ago. I think the HiPo version meant to compete with the Hemi will probably not be a likely release right now. I do however think that they will build a larger V8 derivitive for the F-150 eventually or possibly raise the output of the 5.4L V8.
The 5.4 has a TON of potential and is tried and true and I think they can push a lot more power out of it. I think we can all agree that Ford will undoubtedly be upping the power somehow. We just won't know what is really happening until the truck is unvieled.
Anyone know anything else about the 2007 F-150?

I was hoping the F-150 would get a bump to 325 to make sure it stays competitive (not that it isn't already, but you know what I mean). So does this mean the Hurricane is back on, or no? Which article is older?
Honestly Jim I have no clue which article is older at all. Either way I'm sure we'll see a bump in power whether it be with the 5.4 or another engine.
I think it would be easier to an better to bump up the power of the 5.4. The engine has been around and is very strong.
On the section of the Superduty's I can't wait to see what power increase comes from that

I'm really curious to see where the design of the SD's will go. They've said inspired by the tonka truck... i guess that's cool... they already look a lot like that though.. i want something different, but still good though... cause the current one's darn good. maybe they shouldn't ever change this design at all, wait, no.... poo
I think Motor Trend is talking about the Hurricane motor here. With the long lead times required for magazines it looks as if the news the that hurricane motor project was shelved didn't make it to press.
The hurricane cancellation was back in february... but my impression was that this info came from MT's future vehicle forecast on their site, not from a recent magazine... is that the case andy? Cause that forecast thing is often quite outdated and although its updated fairly often, they don't seem to revise the old stuff. For example, they say that in 2008 we'll get a new focus on the same platform, and then in 2009 it says the exact same thing... stuff like that.
