Ford November 2011 sales up 13.3%, Lincoln down 17.6%
Ford Motor Company enjoyed another healthy month of sales in November, with overall volumes of 166,865 vehicles representing a gain of 13.3 percent versus November 2010. While the Ford brand was responsible for most of those sales gains, luxury division Lincoln once again saw sales tumble in November.
Ford — 160,560 sales, up 20.2 percent
Within the cars division, the Ford Fiesta, Fusion, and Taurus all reported healthy sales gains. With 3552 sales last month, Fiesta climbed 2.3 percent compared to November 2010. The Fusion leapt 12.8 percent to 19,912 monthly sales, and Taurus sales rose 17.4 percent to 4900 cars. Unfortunately, sales of the Focus slipped 9.9 percent to 11,735 cars last month, while Mustang sales dropped 5.6 percent to just 3865 cars.
The Ford Escape continued its record-setting year with 21,823 sales last month, up 46.1 percent year-over-year and bringing the SUV’s total sales in 2011 to 228,719 units — an increase of 32.7 percent over the same period last year. The Escape is proving a strong seller even though Ford recently unveiled the all-new version that goes on sale in spring 2012.
Sales of the Explorer SUV rose significantly versus a year prior, to 12,888, because Ford was transitioning to selling the redesigned 2011 Explorer in November 2010. Sales of the Edge fell 3.4 percent year-over-year to 9685 units, and Flex sales dropped 13.1 percent to 2163. A refreshed version of the Flex will be launched in spring 2012, which Ford hopes will bolster sales.
The F-Series truck family was once again Ford’s top-selling product, with 47,740 units sold last month representing a jump of 23.9 percent year-over-year. The small Transit Connect commercial van, however, saw sales decline 2.0 percent to 2717 units.
Lincoln — 6305 sales, down 17.6 percent
Sales of Ford’s luxury brand continued to trend downward in November, with only the MKX crossover registering a sales gain last month, rising 4.9 percent year-over-year to 1983 sales. The MKZ sedan saw its performance drop 18.9 percent to 2083 cars, the MKS sedan fell 8.4 percent to just 1017 sales, the MKT tumbled 45.1 percent to 324 units, and sales of the Navigator SUV dropped 8.2 percent to 653. Refreshed versions of the Lincoln MKS and MKT were unveiled at the Los Angeles auto show, and will go on sale next spring.
