Ford Motor Company Reports April 2007 U.S. Sales
#3
I heard that global Ford sales were down 5.7%, so at least Ford is holding it's own in the rest of the world.
Good thing we didn' holde the Mustang sales prediction game in April. Mustang sales were worse than I would have guessed.
A very poor # as historically April the best month for Mustang sales.
Year to date Mustang sales are down 17%.
Who's placing odds on 0% APR financing form the Mustang coming soon?

The bright spot is the Edge. It outsold its main competitor (the Murano) by nearly 3,000 units.

If you are in the market to buy a Ford car soon, then you should consider this to be good news. It's a buyers market. I wish I would have waited to buy mine now. I love car shopping.

From what I hear the only ones up were Toyota SLIGHTLY and Chrysler but 10% over last year which last yeat they took a beating....
I hope Ford turns it around sooner rather than later....

Yeah I forgot to set up the thread on the prediction game. 0% financing would be great for me if it was also available on the 2008s.
It was a bad April for mustang sales. Worst from 2004-2007

FX is a niche vehicle and a limited competitor to the MKX.
The MKX's real competitor is the RX-350. Haven't yet seen the Toyota #s, but the RX usually sells ~8,000 / month. With Toyota sales up 3% in April, the MKX has a long way to go before it becomes the class leader.

April 07 sales were even worse than your list shows.
April 2003 Mustang sales were 17,412 !
I don't have the monthly sales #s for earlier years, but based on the total year sales I'd bet that April 07 Mustang sales were the worst April since 1997.

We leased a Murano in March, in part due to the big incentives Nissan had on the Muranos. It was a great deal, the lease was based on $500 over invoice with an effective interest rate of 0.8%. With the Murano's higher residual the total lease cost is quite a bit less than an equivalent Edge.
Also in April rumors broke that the Murano is getting a major update for 2008 which could have hurt sales.
Anyway, good to see the Edge doing will, it's a worthy competitor to the Murano.

Most of Ford's decline, however, was on the retail side -- a blow to the automaker's effort to reduce fleet sales and end a decade-long slide in retail market share, said George Pipas, Ford's manager of sales analysis and reporting.
Ford's retail sales were down 17 percent in April, while fleet sales fell 5 percent.

Automakers blamed the sluggish month on economic factors they say are squeezing sales, including soaring fuel prices and the slowdown in the housing market.
Production cutbacks and a determined effort to trim less-profitable fleet sales also played a role, as did having two fewer selling days compared to last year.

Also, Mustang will be especially hurt by rising gas prices at the pump, AND the forthcoming anticipation over Challenger and Camaro.
There's nothing particularly unusual here when viewed in larger context.
