Ford debating whether to export the 2014 Ka to North America
Just the Facts:
SAO PAULO, Brazil — Ford is spending $446 million to build the next-generation Ka minicompact in Brazil, but hasn't yet decided whether to bring the tiny hatchback to North America.
The new Ka goes into production in late 2013 or early 2014 at Ford's Sao Bernardo do Campo plant in Brazil. It will be built on a shortened version of the Fiesta platform and will draw styling inspiration from the Ford Start concept that was unveiled at the 2010 Beijing Auto Show.
The investment in the San Bernardo do Campo plant, which also builds the big Ford F-series truck and the Courier compact pickup, is part of the automaker's massive $2.7-billion expansion and modernization program in South America, announced in spring 2010.
In Brazil, Ford applied a midcycle face-lift earlier this year to the current Ka.
Inside Line says: Ford plans to build versions of the new Ka at several global locations, including China and India.

I think Ford could use an icon other than the Mustang by bringing a unique looking mini car to the US. The Fiesta looks too mainstream now and it really doesn't feel personal or special enough.
