I suspect that has a lot to do with it, although for me owning a BMW is still about the "ultimate driving machine"..........although I appreciate it's been a while since dynamic were their selling point.

We're going off track here, but one car I really do think would sell well over here is the new Explorer. The choice of 7 seat SUV is pretty limited, with Kia/Hyundai offering the entry-level, and BMW/Audi at the top end. In the middle sits the Volvo XC90.......a car that's 10 years old now. We've just bought an early one and there really are loads of them about. I reckon Ford could take a slice of that market.

I read somewhere that Ford exported about 20,000 Explorers to Europe last year and that they will build it in Russia pretty soon.

We (Britain) didn't see any of them mainly, I suspect, because of the lack of RHD.

There are a few old (think Firestone exploding tyres) models that have been personally imported, but they are very few and far between. It would appear the new model knocks its socks off, anyway
