Edge: Savior or Epitath?

Well, I just want to see some numbers on how we think The Edge will do. No pressure, jsut be honest and lets see how well it does.

Their goal seems to be a conservative 100,000 units a year. If the vehicle is well promoted, I am sure it will be able to hit those numbers. I do think however, the sales of the Freestyle will suffer as a result.

I saw a finished Edge and a Licoln MKX on the final line at work yesterday, and by looking at it quick, i can tell you that they'll sell well. Depending on the price that is. Extremely nice vehicle.

The Freestyle won't suffer as much as you think. The Edge is only a 5 passenger, while the Freestyle is a 6 or 7 passenger (depending on seat configuration), and for the people who need more seats, they won't be looking at the Edge. These people would be looking at the Explorer or even the Freestar minivan (which is dead anyway, bring on the Fairlane!!). I think with the Edge, you will see the Escape sales shrink alot, since the Edge is only a foot longer in length, and much roomier.

What Ford should do, is push the Escape down a peg, and price it lower, to compete with the cheaper small SUV/CUV's. I am thinking of price for the Edge between the low $20's for a base FWD, to mid $30's for a fully loaded with Nav, DVD, and Vista Roof SEL Plus AWD. If this is true, its priced perfectly to get alot of attention. Can't wait to drive one soon.

The Edge's and Lincoln's that we have at work have the window sticker, but no price. I think that they're test vehicles anyway. The ones we have now won't be for sale. As for the Freestar, we're stopping the production of those in April of 2007. That's the word on the shop floor.
