Bright Side
So all this dark news today, a lot of people losing their jobs. Here are a couple things that give me hope for this company, and that make me wanna work for ford some time in the future when they might start hiring people instead of laying off.
-They announced which cars will actually get hybrid versions in the next couple years. They announced a couple months ago that they want to increase hybrid production to 250000 cars a year by 2010, but never mentioned which models. Today they said they'll make hybrid 500s and Edges (plus montegos and MKX's). Personally, what i'd really like to see are some hybrid trucks and crown vics, as these cars spend a lot of time idling and could benefit a lot from hybrid technology (NY taxis?), but so far they're only planning FWD hybrids.
-Found this on Autosinsider about a Top Secret plan to build recyclable vehicles:

Not many details, but this is such good news it makes me cry. First of all, they're actually taking the first step into something, rather than just following suit, which is an incredible sign. Secondly, the idea itself is just genius. You gotta realize that with ford building several million vehicles a year, there are tons of vehicles coming out the other end after a couple years. Aside from people who've never owned a car before, each new vehicle is replacing something old (whether we're talking first or second hand owners). If for could start building cars that are easy to disassemble, with parts that could either be melted down are just straight up reused, that's a huge resource they could be tapping. Maybe right now, its not the most economically feasible thing to do, but if they get it right, if they work out all the necessary technologies, this would be a HUGE way to reduce overall costs. And it would be doing a lot of good in terms of the size of our garbage piles.

Yeah, the new 3.5-V6 and 4.4-V8 are both hybrid ready (for the most part). I think the smaller diesel they have in development might help take up the slack in the truck market and as far as the CVs go . . . .I'm all for hybrid technology in them, as well as a nice '427' style face lift.
