While the new headline was apparently blatant fiction, the new headline is completely accurate.

curb: verb [ trans. ] restrain or keep in check: she promised she would curb her temper.

Restrain means "within limits". Completely correct.

True, but the general public won't read it that way. They will see death

FORD FLEX LIVES ON!

wow the headine on the quote worried me too.

My friend just ordered one and I am looking forward to his delivery when it comes in. Its going to be the Flex Limited in Black with the silver or a white roof, leather, FWD, nav, and best of all THE PANORAMA ROOF!! He said it will be about 6 weeks to get it. I saw one when I was at Monaco FORD and it was striking looking with nice interior appointments. Sorry to hear about the 3rd shift people, the economy stinks when people are affected by job losses. Once more of FLEX are seen out on the road I am sure sales will increase.

I agree, and once the Pubic is convinced it isn't just another SUV it will be a hit.

A better title would have been "Ford Cancels Planned 3rd Production Shift at Flex Plant"
of course, that's not as sensational a headline.

This reminds me of a few years back, when there was an earthquake in the little Oregon town I lived in when I was in college. There had never been an earthquake there before in the town's history.

There was a little damage, but when CNN covered the story, they sent a reporter to stand in front of the the only building in town that received major damage -- a brick facade on the front of the building crumbled into a pile of rubble -- and made it look and sound to the national audience like the whole town was decimated. It was hilarious.

SUV/CUV/minivan - they're all variations on the same **** thing: heavy people and/or cargo haulers that get relatively poor gas mileage.

Clever marketing initials and attractive body work notwithstanding, it's a rose by any other name.

What does it weigh? The same as a passenger car?

What mileage does it get? As good as a passenger car?

I agree.

If I was on the market for a people carrier I would go with a minivan. They are cheaper than crossovers, just as big and sliding doors are a big plus.

I actually like the flex, the exterior styling isnt the best in the world, but it grows on you, the rear doors dont hang straight if you look close, I'm sure it can be fixed....but I think that the interior has got to best the best one in a Ford vehicle ever, and one of the best I've seen anywhere. The drivers seat is incredibly comfortable, I can actually rest my head on the headrest while in a normal driving position, the steering wheel is nice and thick and comfortable, the dash layout is good, good headroom, good legroom; I (6'4") can comfortably sit in the second row with the front seat all the way back. I absolutely love the interior in the flex, it's nearly flawless.

The Flex, the Edge and the Explorer (plus their Lincln counterparts). Why do we need these some many vehicles so close in function? We don't. I think it's a bad move on Ford's part. I really want them to succeed. Capitial Ford has lots of Mustang GTs - auot and manuals - that's tells the story.

One for each class. Flex is a full-size crossover, Edge is a mid-size crossover and Explorer is a mid-size SUV.

I looked at 2 Flex's today at my local dealer while car shopping (we're looking to purchase an Edge). The Flex is a lot more than I was under the impression it would cost. They had a limited there and it was over $40K. The other one was still over $35K. I'm sure they were probably loaded up nicely, but that seems like a high price-point to bring a car into today's market at.

I guess I should have spelled out "economy passenger sedan" for those unable to glean my point.

Exactly. Everybody knows you need >>

-an extra-size crossover utility vehicle
-a full-size crossover utility vehicle
-a compact crossover utility vehicle
-a sport, compact crossover utility van
-a mid-size utility crossover sport van
-a super-size sport cross-utility convertible cargo/passenger vehicle

And then you need to have each one badge-engineered across your three primary makes. Just to be certain all market segments and demographics are covered.

I mean, really...

Base Minivans are less money, but once you start optioning them you can easily and quickly get to $35 to $40 K
