Well, i'm searching for my winter vehicle still, and occassionaly i spot a good deal on something.. this time a Contour SVT.. a '99 with almost 100k on the clock but at the right price.

i've already read the consumer reviews on edmunds, etc. but this is becoming my new way of figuring out what to look for when taking a look at the car.. any personal reviews from you guys? thanks!

While I don't have one, I did sell them when they came out back when. At the time, it was the best performance car for the $$$. I remember one of the magazines (C & D I think) had a comparo test between the SVT, an Audi A4, a BMW 3 series, and a Mercedes. The SVT won the competitoon. New with all options (leather, roof, CD) was just over $23K!! A bargin for what you got in regards to performance. I really like these cars. The were fantastic out of the box and with a few mods, they can really come alive.

 

I don't own one but I remember reading on one of the SVT forums some time ago that that paticular V-6 had oiling problems or lack of lubrication..something like that. Thats the only negative thing Ive heard.

Back in the day when I owned my Taurus SHO, I knew a couple of people that owned them. They seemed quite pleased with them.

 

I may have accidently contributed to his disappearance. He didnt like something I said about the SVT Contour and then there was a little forum-war over the merits of the car. it's pretty entertaining:
