'97 cargo van going the distance: 1 million miles

Sometime in the next few days, Mr. Schell's van - which he bought used in Monroe, Mich., in 1996 and uses to deliver cargo across North America - will have been driven 1 million miles.

Wow, the coolest thing about that story is that it is a Ford (not a Toyota, Honda, Volvo or Mercedes).

I went to the guys website, it doesnt have cruise control! That's one of the two things that would HAVE to be replaced. I almost always use the CC on highway trips. And 5 years without A/C? You gotta wonder what kinda fuel mileage he gets....

Not how I was raised around engines my friend. My father and Grandfather would have heart attacks at that oil change interval.

Your father and grandfather were right...40 years ago. Modern engines with modern oil can easily go 10K miles if they are all easy highway miles. Even conventional oil should hold up fine if you drive like this guy does with his van.

Although it sorta doesnt surprise me, a buddy of mine has a 2500 Silverado, the tranny broke, the dealer fixed it after giving him some crap, 2000 miles later, it's busted again.
