Ford stepped up and bit the bullet on loaners while they worked on a fix. I think most people will let it go and move on. In the grand scheme of things it's a minor speed bump. Had they done this in 2-3 years and had to recall millions of vehicles, it would be a totally different story.

It worked pretty well for me so far, that's how I was able to afford a brand new Mustang when I was 16 by working weekends at McDonalds ...
To me everything does come to a price because no matter how good the product is, if its overpriced I won't like it.
Speaking of price, my local Ford dealers has rebates up to $5,000 on the 2012 Focus ... I've seen a brand new Focus Titanium for under $19,000 ... That's a really good buy, I wish I was in a market for a new car now...

these people just want money and are jumping on a band wagon. Greedy jerks are messing this world up and will be the death of fun and freedom!!
Just as Hyundai is reimbursing customers, the plaintiff in the case, Richard Pitkin from California, says he wants money from Ford, and that other owners should get some, too. The same law firm, McCuneWright, is the one suing Hyundai.

some people are dumb and think you should be able stomp on the gas every where you go and you should get 47 mpg. It also has to do with the blend of fuel you have in the area you live. It also has to do with how high you live and the weather.

I do agree, but at the same time some of these MPG claims are way off. In the Honda lawsuit, Honda couldn't even prove the MPG numbers of the civic hybrid.

I think in Honda's case, the problem were the batteries, which were losing their "power" pretty fast and they couldn't be recharged to 100%.
The last generation Fusion hybrid never had problems beating 41 mpg city rating ... It wasn't until the new Mk. 3 came out that problems with mileage started happening.
First it was multiple recalls on 1.6L engines, then gas mileage on hybrids ... What's next?

HONDA IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2009-2010 HONDA FIT VEHICLES. THERE IS A POTENTIAL FOR ONE OR MORE OF THE FOUR SPRING ASSEMBLIES ON THE ENGINE'S VARIABLE VALVE TIMING AND LIFT ELECTRONIC CONTROL (VTEC) SYSTEM TO FAIL.
Consequence:
A FAILURE OF THE SPRING ASSEMBLIES MAY CAUSE THE VEHICLE TO STALL DURING OPERATION INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.
Remedy:
DEALERS WILL INSPECT AND REPLACE THE SPRING ASSEMBLIES IN THE ENGINE IF NECESSARY FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL BEGAN ON MARCH 7, 2011. OWNERS MAY CONTACT HONDA AT 1-800-999-1009.

Ford had plenty of time to do the testing and get rid of all issues or at least get rid of major issues.

As for the plenty of time, again, wrong. They do lots of testing, but often times they just can't simulate the mileage, types of abuse, and different drivers that will occur in the real world.

You don't hear something like that very often. Obviously, chances are pretty high of something happening if Fusion and Escape owners drove their vehicles.
My F-150 had a recall for airbags, but Ford never said anything like that.
I still think the 2006-2012 Fusion is a better car overall that the 2013 Fusion. I never had a single problem (nor a single recall) on mine.
As for 1.6L EcoBoost engine, that engine has been available in the European Focus since 2010. Meaning that Ford had almost three years to perfect it and fix early issues.
And then pretty much as soon as the new Escape and Fusion (Ford's 2nd and 3rd best selling vehicles) came out - there are recalls. Add the whole issue with the fuel economy and things are not looking bright ...
By the way, it doesn't matter anymore whether Ford or Consumer Reports or whoever tested the Fusion Hybrid (and got 39 mpg overall) is right - the public will know that there was a "problem" and many drivers won't buy it simply because of that.
