Xcalibrator 2 trouble

Xcalibrator 2 trouble
I bought an Xcalibrator 2 tuner, and everytime that I tune my car with it, my car starts ticking almost like a valve or something. I lowered the timing two degrees and it just got worse. Does anyone have any ideas. I was running the 87 performance tune, and Im going to try the 93 performance next time I fill up.

If it got worse by lowering the timing, try raising it. Technically it is called advancing and retarding the timing, (or even forward or backward) and I'm assuming by "lowering" you mean retarding, but I'm just guessing here.

are you sure you're running the right fuel octane for the tune?
don't take chances with it buddy.. advance the timing 3 degrees (2 degrees to where it was, and 1 degree further). if it doesn't get any better, i suggest you get a data log (make sure you log the knock sensors) and send it to Doug... during which restore the stock tune and wait![Smile](https://themustangsource.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
EDIT: actually if doug said don't advance it, well then don't![Smile](https://themustangsource.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
just set the timing back to what it was, run a datalog and send that to Doug so he can see what's going on

Yeah that is odd. Im wondering if the gas you have been runnning is really truely up to par, even if you are running an 87 oct tune. Defintely go to 93 and see if it continues.

ok... I put the 93 in with the 93 tune, and had the same outcome. Then I ran the 87 tune with 93 and it runs like it is supposed to. I think that the gas that Im buying isnt up to par.

Yeah that was my first thought as well. Try a different station and see what happens. Also have you changed your fuel filter lately and/or ran any type of fuel additive cleaner through it?

Im deffinatly going to another station.Yes I ran fuel injector cleaner through it a while back. Im probably going to do that again fairly soon, but I havent changed my fuel filter. Im guessing that I should do that.
