Red face Wierd Banging this Morning

Hello all

This morning I started my 04 Gt up to go to school. It is an automatic and when I put it in reverse it would not creep backwards when I let go of the brake (handbrake was not on) I put it back in park and back in reverse but the car would not pull. I gave it a little gas and the transmission banged loudly and then went into reverse.

Is this normal? Since then the car has seemed fine. Do I need to change the transmission fluid (80k miles) since as far as I know the transmission fluid has never been changed. Thanks in advance.

I would say you need a power flush and a new filter. That may extend the life of your torque converter.

My dad checked the the transmission fluid and apparently it is full...

The car has been doing that occasionally on cold mornings since I got it (1 year ago) and it always happens when shifting from Park.. however this is the first time it would not move when removing foot from brake.. Also this time the bang was a lot louder..

Yeah I've heard that before. Its best to flush at intervals along the way.

But my older car developed a torque converter shudder that was pretty violent a couple of times. I did a flush and it helped the shudder but still shifted slowly into 3rd when it was cold. So I had it flushed again, the pan cleaned (a palmful of filings!), and another filter. I got a few more years out of it that way.
