Welp, my electric seat stopped moving
Welp, my electric seat stopped moving
Hey
I haven't had my car long at all and the seat stopped working on me. For a short while it wouldn't work then it would. Now nothing. Good thing it didnt get stuck pulled up all the way. This girl has a big ghetto booty. Momma needs room to get in.
It not working really blows. My clutch has to be completely against the floor b4 she'll start. I was moving the seat up till my knees were going into the dash to start then back up a little. I always moved it all the way back b4 I got out. I've got terrible knees that dont bend. So three questions
What's wrong? I assume the motor went out.
What will be the cheapest way to fix the issue?
And
How hard is it gonna be to fix?
I wish I had got my first Mustang back after the wreck for parts

Thanks for reading and any comments will help.

Welcome to the forums!
Question back: Which year mustang? That might be important, as there were two seats. '94-98 were two motor, four way seats, whereas the '99-04 were three motor, six way seats, and the kits/seat tracks/electrics thereto are different. Parts do not... directly... interchange. Anything is possible with determination, hammer, dremel, bondo and such, but yeah, not swappable directly unless you swap out the entire seat track (and wiring then becomes a problem.)
Second question: How much are you doing yourself? That has great bearing on your 'cheapest' issue. Labor's not free, unless you got someone to do the work for free, then yes, it's free. Or at least, pizza-and-beerable anyway.
If it's a '94-98, they make a kit to fix it all, but it's gonna be about 250 to get it to your door, then it's gotta be put in.

For the '99-04, you probably have to get the seat tracks, which can be as low as $100, plus shipping, on ebay.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/183765909681 (currently available)
And that's because they don't make a repair kit for it (that I found, anyway)
AND there's no guarantee it works either, but you can trust the person selling it, it's on the internet, and they can't deceive you when it's on the internet.
It doesn't look like the above kit will go in there, but hey... remember the dremel?
Oh yeah, they do make motors only, but that's getting outside my scope...
https://lmr.com/item/LRS-14547B/Must...al-Motor-92-98
Again, not sure that'd work on the later SN95 setup or not. Maaaybeeee....
You could also look into acquiring the tracks for the 94-98 setup too, but same caveats about the interwebs can't deceive. I would probably lean towards the rebuild than the 'new' used one, because I'm that way.
And, just food for thought, you could look into upgrading the seat to the '99-04 6 way, but that will require some wiring most likely, and you'd be advised to go to a junk yard and hope you can find one still in the car so you can get the connectors on both sides. Otherwise, you'll have to figure out how to wire it up custom. Or heck, it might just be the same connector and an extra bit of harness on the seat only, what do I know.
Either way, the tracks bolt onto the seat, four fasteners, so it can be worked on/swapped out pretty easy once the seat is out of the car (which is also four fasteners along with a couple of wire harness connectors.) The seats are pretty much the same frame and all, the tracks are what's different. Maybe some other small trim pieces, not huge items to get/figure out.
Hope that helps ya out, and good luck!

Hey. Thank you for all the info. Mines a 02. There is in no cheap fix or easy it sounds like for me. I'd have to buy parts
and pay someone to do it. Replacing the seat sounds like the best option. That's a matter of finding someone to go to the local junk yard to pull and swapping it out with mine.
I seen something online about using a winder tool to manual move it. I haven't been able to find said tool. that dont help me much tho. I need to be able to move the seat while in it. I need the seat a good ways up to start it easier. The clutch has to be completely to the floor to start. Its easiest to get out with the seat all the way back. I guess where it is is just about perfect place to be stuck. It's in the middleish. I'd like it just a little more
Thank you again
