Should I Trade???

Ok here is the situation my brother has a 1970 Boss 302 project car along with a clean 90 LX 5.0 with electrical problems that he wants to trade straight up for my Cobra. I know that he has invested over $30,000 into the car not including the purchase. In all honesty it would probably take an additional $30,000 to complete the Boss 302 in a correct restoration.

To be honest I have no interest in fixing the Boss my question is it worth trading my lightly modded, mint condition low mile Cobra for these two cars? My plan would be to sell both cars hoping that i'd have enough cash to pick up a low mile 07-09 GT500 next spring... any ideas or opinions?

Sorry, didn't realize there were 2 threads. I'd say don't do it, you'd be trading a piece of history for history in pieces

That's a tough one. If you can see yourself honestly making money on the trade than I would go for it. I am planning on selling my Cobra for a 07-09 GT500 within the next 2 years as well, so I can relate to what you're thinking.

No. Unless you want to solve both of those cars, and can live without the Cobra. I am no longer into projects of that magnitude, so this is an easy negatory here for me.

i wouldnt, brother might not like you trading the cars like that, plus you still have to fix the others (atleast somewhat) or you wont get much of anything for them.

I told him my intentions if we made the trade. He is impatient and has the money to burn. I'm looking to simply sell the Boss without even touching it I just want to see what it is worth the LX is a different story the parts alone are worth more than the car.

I'm hoping that by doing the leg work myself I can basically trade my 03 Cobra for an 07 GT500....

Ah. Missed the selling part... I probably still wouldn't though. But it's your decision.

I would never do it, not with my experience restoring a '68 fastback and a '68 vert. It's a money pit.

Classics are very nice to look at but that is where it ends. Besides, your Cobra will run circles around the Boss. Being forty years old is real old for a car.

This is what I am debating. I know the car will be expensive to complete but this is not the run of the mill Mustang coupe. I'm thinking with a car like a Boss, Shelby or Mach1 I will at least make a small return on my investment or perhaps even profit a great deal.

I agree that mechanically speaking the Cobra is by far the superior car, but I have owned it for over 4 years and it's value is sure to decline. The Boss is something that i can perhaps give a little TLC or even sell as is for enough money to buy a 07-09 GT500... I'm sure that the 90 LX will fetch about $5000 as well.

I would like to thank all of you for your advice. After a lot of agonizing and thinking about your posts I have decided that I'm going to pass on this one.Though I'd love to own a classic Boss 302 I don't have the funds to complete the job to my liking. At the end of the day a 1970 Boss 302 is an awesome car but I guess I like my 2003 Cobra more. Even when the car was completed I don't think I'd make a huge profit but more likely brake out even.

A Termy is still one hell of a car, I'm sure you will continue to enjoy it.
