Just curious if you guys think that the modern 79-08 cars will be worth more if the cars have rare colors and options. The reason I bring this up is because over the years I've seen many rarities in fox cars (example: T-Top notch back) I also happen to own a couple stangs that seem to stand out from the others.

My 1997 GT that I have owned since 00' is 1 of only 2462 Deep Violet cars made that year in 96' 4769 where made. I'm trying to find out more info to see how many were GTs and how many had gray leather interior. Since owning this car for over 8 years now i've never seen one just like it. Others I have seen have all had black interior.

The other is likely less rare but my 2003 Cobra is Redfire with leather seats with a tan insert instead of the more common gray. I have seen a few other 03 Cobras with these seats but all of them have been either black or white mine is the only red one i've seen with this seat/color combo.

 

Worth more depends on the buyer. If the buyer says to himself "I've always wanted a Deep Violet 97 Mustang GT with gray interior." Then to him it is worth more than any other Mustang. If your buyer wants a Red Mustang with black interior, then getting the "short end of the stick" with a purple one will make the buyer want to spend even less than the car that there were thousands more of.

 

yea I do def think they will be worth more in the future. I know the oddball 60's musclecars fetch more $$ as compared a common color combo..

 

With the higher numbers in production that were done in all those years, I dont think you'll see the huge inflation of price like you see with the origional cars. Sure they hold thier value a tad more than their more common counterpart, but I wont be 10 fold or anything. For example the 1996 Mystic Cobra's, 1999 made, they will prob bring 4-6k more than a regular 1996 cobra only because its color and for that to happen its going to have to extremely mint.

 

I think its a possibility, at least we can all hope. My car falls in the same catagory, being 1 of just over 5000 made in Sunburst Gold. Do I think that the Sunburst will be worth as much as a 96 Mystic? No. Because the 96 Mystic is ever more of a rarity.. it may hold up a slightly higher value, especially if you keep the car in mint condition, but as Scott said, I wouldnt expect someone to pay thousands more for my car than they would the Black GT down the street from me with the same mileage.

 

Mine is 1 of 1039 Comp Orange Machs produced. I still drive her like I stole her.

 

i drove mine like i stole it. and broke it too! I just think its too hard to judge what will and will not be worth money. Just because they did not make many doesnt mean it will be worth alot. Wait 20 years and find out. Bet no one thought their Boss and SHelby mustangs were gonna be worth a poot either

 

I think long term 40-50 years the SE cars with unique colors will fetch a higher price but more because they are SE's and not just a unique color.

i.e. Dark Highland Green Bullitt, Azure Blue Mach 1, Mystic Cobra. You basically get a limited model and limited color, but I'm sure you guys were smart enough to figure that out on your own!

 

Apparently rarity only matters at televised auctions. It seems that if its a very low production, it does pick up more... ...but that doesnt mean a brown car will get more than a red. Like it was said, it has to still appeal to people. They only made 1304 iris metallic mustangs. (light purple, and only offered in 1994. But It will never be worth more than 1/15th of a 1994 indy pace car (1000 made) no matter how old.

My 94 came with red interior and a white top. I dont have production numbers (may get them next year), but I could see 20+ years from now if it went to barrette jacksons, maybe getting $1000 more. I dont know, and again, thats a LONG LONG time from now. Currently I wouldnt get anything extra for just options.

 

Who even knows if these cars will ever be worth money. Don't get me wrong I love all 4th gen cars but the more I think about it the slower 94-98 years are becoming the Mustang IIs of their generation (expensive to mod, inferior results and not as "cool" as the 99-04). Its too bad too because I love the 94-98 car, maybe even more than the 99-04 in terms of looks. I still daydream about having a yellow 98' Cobra in my driveway from time to time.

 

Ha! I just got home from work today and my rare color actually got the attention of three pretty girls driving a civic on the side of me. They flagged me down and now i'm taking one out, all because of my daily beater purple GT! This is funny this car gets more compliments from the ladies than the Cobra....

 

OK, I'm seeing this nearly 15 years later but thought anyone that happens across this happens to get a kick out of it. I own one of those 2,462 Deep Violet mustangs and it's now 25 years old with over 400,000 miles on her bones. I've wrecked her 3 times and kept bringing her back to life. I think it helped that I drove her regularly all over South Florida and northwards (even up to New England and back), most of my daily commute was at high speed on expressways, and I always kept her hydrated. For the first 15 years or so the only car-wash to touch her was my hands, every Saturday on my front lawn.

I bought my Purple Steeda GT at Plantation Ford in Plantation, Florida in March 1997 with 38 miles on the odometer. By the time I test drove it, it had only been up to Steeda Autosports in Coconut Creek for modification and numbering and back. A rare color is made even rarer by being the only Deep Violet GT modified and numbered (#97-003) by Steeda, with badging in/on the trunk, engine bay, and on the shifter bezel.

It's lowered with Steeda springs and stiffened with a sway bar. The lowering kept eating tires, so I had to add Steeda's camber/caster adjustment plates and and lower control arms pretty quickly. It's got Steeda's underdrive pulleys and a K&N cold air intake. The rear was modified as well, but I can't remember the gear ratio... 3:55 I think? It took 20 years for the FlowMaster exhaust they put on it to fall off. I now have Flowmaster American Thunder with X-pipe, and the purple beast is annoying as my neighbor's Hellcat. However, mine's so old that it only pretends to be fast.

The poor paint has seen better days, however, and I'm contemplating the worth of stripping her down and repainting with the original color.
