My 03 GT making very weird noise
#1
I have a 03 GT that I race on road courses and I autocross it. It just started making this noise and my shop can't figure it out just yet. So i thought i would see if anyone had this problem.
I just put in a 31 splin axle and a Auburn traction and we rebuilt the diff.
After i get my car back it starts making this noise that sounds like Chewbacca is in my back seat. I know everyone laughs at me and thinks im an idiot when i say that but then when they hear it, they are like wow it really does sound like that.
So they thought the right brake pad was put on the left, and the left on the right. It's definetly not as bad now. But it still randomly does it. Nobody thinks its the diff cause that was working great. It seems to happen more when the car is heated up.
Any ideas would be greatly apericiated!! cause im stumped :bang:

We may have something similar. I've got a Roush 2002 4.6 with 18" Argent wheels and BFG "biggies." Have EBC RedStuff pads at the front on PBS 13" discs; EBC GreenStuff pads on the 11 1/2 rear discs. When normal temp, no noise on hard cornering. But if I warm up the brakes (as in HOT), then I get a loud non-metallic scrapping sound at the rear from whichever side is "opposite" the turn I'm taking. I also do high-speed road course events.
This situation didn't appear until after I went to the EBC pads, but also after I upgraded the read brakes assemblies - got the parts from Ford Racing. Rear calipers are Cobra.
I'm thinking (since temp plays a role) that the softer EBC pads may get "stickly" with temp, and then if the axle shifts axially (as it can ever so little), the rotor is dragging on the pads.
The sound is NOT metallic nor is it consistent, although in some situations the sheet metal backing shroud vibrates. Most annoying!
Sound like what you're hearing?
