Help with my Pop's 04??

He just called me today - on cold start-up, he has this loud ticking rattling noise that goes away within ten seconds.....

Its an 04 vert with at least 15-20K mileage....

It sounds somewhat similar to a TSB for the 05s and up regarding the cam phasers or something but I can't find a TSB for the '04s for a noise like this (only the constant ticking noise TSB)

Anyone have any input?
Thanks!!

Hmm if its under warrenty have him take it in just to be sure. Im not sure what it could be really unless maybe a chain tensionor is sticking untill warmed up a bit.

could have an oil filter that doesn't have the anti drainback valve in it my S-10 did that until I changed the oil and filter the lifters would rattle until the were pumped full of oil again so it probably the lash adjusters making the rattling
