Headlights - 1999 vs 2001
Headlights - 1999 vs 2001
Does anyone know if the 2001 version of headlights will fit into a 1999? The 2001 style headlights are quite a bit cheaper than the 1999 version, so if they are the same headlight (except 2001's are smoked), I'd just as soon save the extra money and buy the 2001's. However, I'd hate to buy them only to find out that they do not fit or require some unique modification. Anyone have any insights on this?
I don't think there is any difference. I see no difference about the buckets, and therefore I see no problem in them fitting. I ran into a similar issue when I replaced mine (see avatar). Every where I was looking to get them from had all the smoked ones 2001 and up. The only smoked ones labeld for my year were the cobra ones, which were much more expensive. Anyways, I went with the cheaper ones labeled for 2001 and they fit fine.
Parts will arrive in about a week.....I'll have to take some before and after pix. This is the latest pic I have of the current ones, but it's from my cell phone, so the quality isn't so hot. I'm also going to pick up some new bulbs....hopefully I'll be able to see a little better this winter.
Yours are just as bad as mine were. You'll be able to see a lot better just with the new headlamps. I already had some sylvania silverstars when I switched mine out, and man did they spread light out there when I replaced the headlamps.
Install Completed
OK, I finally got the headlights and a chance to install them. It took me a little longer than I had hoped, because one of the headlight retainers was missing and it looked like body shop that had done some work on my headlights 8 years ago had used two bolts instead of the retainer. I wasn't very happy to find that under my hood, that's for sure. ....a sign of laziness by the shop.
Anyways, here are the before and after pix. The headlights definitely look 100 X's better. Only thing is now, I can tell just how bad my 10 year old Stang needs a new paint job.
As for lights, I decided to use the Phillips X-treme Power for the headlights and standard Sylvania bulbs for the turn signals. I'll let you know when I head out tonight, how much better the light is.
