does the 2003-2004 Mach 1 have IRS? or live?

I watched an old ep of car and driver tv, and one of the editors claims it has the same Independent Rear as the Cobra. My search online says otherwise. Who's right??

Tom
The Machs are still awesome cars though! Just don't have the independent. To be honest, I'm glad mine didn't. It really just depends on what you're wanting to do. The live axle was great in that car, IMO.
Yeah I dont think the Mach's would have performed as well at the track as they do if Ford had gone IRS in them. Im glad they didn't because there is alot of potential still left in the SLA.
Another C&D Mustang mistake:
In the August issue of the magazine, they do a review of the Subaru legacy 2.5, which is a pretty quick car. The one writer then writes this:
"People who dont know this engine see a powerless four door sedan. Woe to the 4.9 liter mustang driver who thought he'd overtake me!"
The 4.9 liter? I must've been asleep when Ford released that model. They might be referring to the 5.0, which wasnt quite 5 liters, but it's a 5.0 mustang, not a 4.9 mustang.
Half of these writers must have no real familiarity with cars, just a journalism degree and a spec sheet with all the info they need to write an article.

Sadly if they were going by a spec sheet, they'd probably get it right.

The IRS is more expensive and more difficult to work on. However the design produces less unsprung weight. IRS also plants the wheels better in turns and curves, but this obviously isnt a concern on the drag track .
At the drag strip, wheel hop on the IRS Is a big problem. Wheel = broken half-shafts if not extremely careful

Drew-
Actually the Mach engines are quite different from the '98 Cobra engines (heads/cams/intake). They more closley relate to the 99-01 Cobra engines, but still have some differences. (Cams/Heads)

The mach 1 engine is the same as the maruader, it uses the same cams as the 5.4 navigator
