Dash Lights Out

Hey Everyone,

My dash lights in my '99 V6 are not lighting up when I turn the headlights on and was curious if anyone had any ideas. I'm thinking maybe a fuse?

The odometer is still lit, as is the SES light and the turn indicators in the dash light up, but the speedo/tach/fuel, etc is out and the temp controls are out, including the radio indicators, except the station/time on the head unit. Everything is still factory in regards to the head unit, gauge cluster, etc.

I also noticed that the lights that do turn on, do not dim when I turn the headlights on, like they used to. It's almost as if the dash doesn't realize the lights are on.

Note, the dome light works fine, as do all headlights and taillights. Any ideas are appreciated, as my plan at this point is to start checking fuses as soon as it stops raining tonight.

Its probably just some bad bulbs.. if I remember right there are six beyond the spedo assembly.
Do a Google search! There are hundreds of articles on how to replace the bulbs and the size of bulbs you will need.

Dimmer switch know to go bad and make the lights stay off. Play with it a bit and see if it starts working.

Hey guys....thanks for the input. I checked the fuses tonight and all of the ones related to the instrument panel appear to be good...although I did not check the one in the engine bay, because I didn't have time to disconnect the battery tonight....but I'm guessing that one probably isn't the cause anyways.

I toyed with the dimmer switch, but no matter what I did, there was no change, except the obvious interior light coming on when you twist the **** all the way counterclockwise. It does seem like this could be the culprit though, simply because the dash operates as if the headlights are off, when in fact they are on. So, I'm leaning towards swapping out the headlight switch and seeing if that does the job.

UPDATE: I overlooked one of the fuses (#37) under the dash.....once I swapped it, all is good. Now, the only question is why that fuse blew. Time will tell.

Thanks for the help guys!
