Better speakers

So I was planning on getting a new sound system for my car prob this month or next month. I'm not talking about a big *** system in the trunk that pumps out bass you can hear in ohio.....just replacements for the stock system that are just a lot cleaner sounding. I dont care about how loud it gets, I'm just looking for really good quality sound. I mostly listen to rock so when I blast it on my stereo now, it gets a little crappy.

I was looking at crutchfield.com, but I realized that I dont know anything about this stuff. So I was hoping that some of you might know a little more than me. If you have any suggestions please let me know. I dont mind spending up to like $500 if that makes any differece. Thanks a lot guys.

I've always been a sony fan when it comes to sound systems. You can rip out your entire setup and put all sony in for about $1000. That's getting a new head unit as well. The stock one is descent, but if you're going to replace speakers, you might as well replace the head unit too. It'll sound a lot better.

Also Alpine is a good brand. If you have an iPod, you should get a unit that has an iPod jack. A lot clearer sounding than a FM Transmitter, and it don't kill your battery like a aux. jack.

That sounds pretty good.....I've always heard good things about Sony. Do you have any recomendations on where I can buy all that. And $1000 is a little high for me right now, but I'll see what I can pull....I really want to get this

do you have the mach sound system? If so I just recommend changing the speakers. Infinity Kappa series has great sound. they have a 6x8 (5X7) component system that comes with a set of woofers for the doors and/or deck, and a set of tweeters that can be used to replace the mids in your mirrors and deck. You will not need the cross overs if your car has the mach, but they fetch a decent price on ebay.

I believe they are about $250 / set on crutchfield. I believe they have a special going on right now that may include any necessary brackets, so you might go with a better performing round speaker like a 5 1/4".

I got my Infinity Kappas from crutchfield, and am very happy with them. Crutchfield's website is really easy to use, and they gave me everything I needed. Good luck!

I have Pioneer head unit and pioneer mids in the front and rear and they are the cleanest sounding speakers I've ever heard and they're loud enough to keep up with the two 12" kickers in the trunk

I ended up getting a pair of 5x7 Alpine S speakers (think thats what they were called) in the back and a pair of infinity 5x7's in the doors. Also getting a set of tweeters for up front....I only had the stock stereo in my car so mine didnt come with any to begin with. Its all gunna be installed next week so I'm pretty pumped. Not now, but I'm also gunna pick up an alpine amp, forgot what kind though.

None of my friends have any aftermarket speakers for their cars, so I dont really know how different it sounds. For you guys who have them, is it a big jump?

So I got them in today....I ended up not getting the tweeters. So far it sounds a lot better, but it still gets a little distorted at full volume. From what I understand the amp I'm gunna get will help that, but I wont be getting it for a little while because of money. On the other hand I've also heard that a new head unit would help that out a lot.

So my new question is does anyone have any recomendations on replacing the head unit? My problem is that I think all those aftermarket faces are ugly as hell. So I'm looking for one that is kinda plane but good quality. Thanks for all the help guys.

From what I've heard, Pioneer's seem to be the best.....my only problem is the one's in my price range (around 150) all are a pain in the *** as far as button layout goes. I know im picky as hell about this stuff but I just dont want to end up spending money on something I wont like.

The one that I saw and did like, an alpine, I heard wasnt as good as the pioneer. So would you agree on that? Is the alpine definately not as good?

I got a Sony X-PLOD for Christmas, and I love it. It sounds exponentially better than the old head unit. (Blaupunkt?) I really like that it has basically a slot for everything. iPod, a slot for a usb connection (flash drives, usb mp3 players etc.) and for an aux port. It looks pretty clean and it's extremely easy to use. I would highly recommend it. I'll try to find the website for it.
