Yep. Gave out. Need a whole new rear end. Anybody know what a decent estimate range should be to replace it with used parts? Btw, this is my first mustang and my baby

If the gears stripped, I'd think you only need new gears. Why do you think you need a whole new rear end?

Yep. Find out exactly what you tore up. Tear down and see what's broken. Carriers are expensive but ring and pinion are not that bad. Labor is never cheap unless you can find a good tech to build it on the side.

The shop guy just said he was gonna need a rear end cause its "pretty tore up and wore down". I can believe it because it's almost 20 years old and nothing has been replaced/fixed back there. I'll get details from as soon as I can.

Probably much cheaper to just buy a rear end that is already built the way you want it with the gears you want.

Check out mps auto salvage in eBay. They sell complete rear ends for every mustang. Each read end is inspected re sealed, new bearings etc. Etc. They're painted black and look nice too. Expect to pay $700-$900 but they're ready to bolt on.

A local salvage yard should have a rear end for cheap. The 8.8 is a dime a dozen. I just worked on a Crown Vic who's axle seal went out and emptied the rear of enough fluid to dry out the bearing. Axle destroyed the bearing, the axle tube on the rear end, the e-brakes and brakes and smoked the differential. We acquired a rear from a local salvage yard for $375 and freshened it up with new seals.

At least wih these you can upgrade to a better gear ratio at the same time..
